toasted from rocking back and forth?

I found a 93 XLT with 82k on it. They say the trans (a4ld)went when the wife tried to "rock it" back and forth when stuck in a snow bank. The trans does nothing when put into gear.
I could get the truck for $600.
Wondering if anyone wants to take a stab at whether the trans needs to be rebuilt. Or if it might be a matter of a soft parts rebuild?

an A4LD never gets a soft parts rebuild...ever.
If you are going to take it out then it needs a FULL rebuild with no corners cut, otherwise you'll be sorry. The A4LD NEVER should have been asked to motivate the 4x4 Explorer. they are a good trans from the factory, but still not up to par.
I say get it and throw in either another A4LD you pick up used, a 5 speed, or a C4 auto.....

Also have you checked the fluid level??

Thanks for the info...I didnt buy it yet so I dont know if the fluid is low or burnt. Would be a dd without offroad miles...has anyone had luck with additives for the trans? I'm a cheep skate, what might I be able to get away with?

600 bucks isnt bad
