Hello. I'm new to this, so forgive me if this question has already been answered. I have a 98 xplr with a 4.0 SOHC. I replaced the stock air filter with a K&N filter charger kit, not just the air filter. It went for around (100) miles or so before the check engine light came on. I had a friend of mine hook it up to his computer and it gave me a code that it was getting too much air. What can I do to overcome this? He has cleared the light for me at least a dozen times for me. By clearing it, it usually last about 100 or so miles before poping back on. He thinks I should put back on the factory equiptment, and just replace the air cleaner. I DON'T LIKE THAT OPTION :( I'm thinking, since I'm taking in more air, I have to let out more air. New headers, and exaust? I just don't have that money to go that route just yet. Any help would be appreciated

Did you reset your computer AFTER you replaced the stock unit and BEFORE you started it again? The computer needs to re-learn the new airflow. To reset, just disconnect your battery for around 10 minutes. Then re-connect, start up and drive "normally" for a while.

Yep what he said and the code #s would help.

I did clear the computer by disconnecting the battery. As far as the code numbers go I can't recall at this time, but I will find out in the near future. But I do remember it being something about the mass air flow sensor. Thanks for the help so far.

One quick easy thing you could do is clean the maf sensor wires. Try a search.

Al your good!

Well IT happened today. Right at 97 miles after cleaning the MAF filaments (see my first thread "100 miles or so") the check engine light comes back on. I now have the codes they are PO171 & PO174. Given, they are in the thread that aldive gave me, and I did what it said to do, but that still didn't fixed the problem . I read that too many of y'all have k&n fipks', so I know it's a good product. I just can't figure out what is wrong with my application  ANY one out there with other sugestions?
