Torsion bar pads

So while the replacement torsion bar pads are rather cheap I'm currently unemployed and am looking for a cheap fix for now. Something else I can stick in between the adjuster and the frame to shut it up? Like a chunk of tire or something? Any ideas or am I just being really really really cheap?

Considering the factory pads are made of kevlar, I doubt any household item will last very long.

And a hockey puck? Please explain to me how that would work?

That's about what I was figuring, my x is stock. And a hockey puck would never work. Why don't I just use a fridge door or something?

Say, you glue some new kevar material, where the old pad was?

OK......so, where do you get kevlar? How about an old policeman's bullet proof vest?

Next.....what kind of glue will work? I don't know? Hey, advice is FREE.

Like what was asked in post above. Is it stock, lifted or lowered? Have you tried putting more tension in to keep it from moving?

I am in the thinking, the only way to get that kind of movement out on the end of the torsion bar is if the lower contol arm bushings are worn--loose.

most 2nd gen explorers seem to have this problem. This is my 2nd 97 with it, my girls 97 has it, her parents 95 has the same problem...I think her brothers 98 has the same clunk as well. Most of them seem to have it, I don't know though I doubt, your vehicle being a mountineer if it doesn't have the problem. I was seriously thinking about just taking a chunk of an old tire, cutting it out and sticking it in there just for now till I find some work and can afford to be putting money into the car again....

I've read all that stuff on replacing them and whatnot and beleive me I'm not the type to redneck my way outta fixing something that needs to be fixed, it's just right now were I'm out of work I'm squeezing every penny I can for all I can get that squeezing again with a press so if I can avoid the $70 or so for parts for 6 months then I'd be happy...just annoying hearing the clunk and potentially keeps me from hearing something else....something worse.
