ive got a 91 eb that i use to tow a 3000 lb cuddy cabin around with. it does really well just doesnt get there to fast. the ? i have is whether it is ok to run on the freeway in od. i dont use it when i am in stop and go and in areas where there are a lot of hills but when i am going through long flats or downhill is there any harm in shifting in to od and trying to up the mileage a little?

None at all. Just make sure to shift when you see that the engine is going to have to work hard to keep the weight moving. You may want to check into a tranny cooler well, use the search function and you'll find a ton about this topic.

i agree with jayhawk. a tranny cooler is ESSENTIAL in the firs gen explorers. otherwise, esp with towing, you are just begging to get a trans rebuild.

Good advice given above!

Synthetic fluid'll help too.

You need to get a tranny cooler with that heavy of a trailer behind a first gen Ex.
