Hi Folks,
Does anyone know, if you rotate tires on a 2016 Explorer does the TPMS require some type of reset?

It isn't "required", the TPMS readings will just be for the incorrect location. If one is slightly under inflated, you won't know which one. If one is flat, it will be obvious.

If you still want the TPMS to relearn the locations, you can purchase the TPMS training tool: Motorcraft TPMS19.

I have yet to try any of the old tool-less procedures for retraining TPMS, which involve a deflating the tires to during retraining mode.

Some members have posted that the system will pick up the TPMS sensors after driving for a while. Now these posts involved replacing the OEM wheels with Winter wheels and new TPMS sensors. Not sure if it would correct the existing sensors if they were in a different location on the vehicle. My dealer resets the 'system' when I have the semi annual switch over. Also, I don't use the cross over method. Just front to back keeping them on the same side. I guess if you really wanted to find out you could simply under inflate a tire and see if the corresponding tire is shown on the display in the correct location.

The proof of the idiocy of Ford's TPMS just keeps piling up. What a joke of a system. When I install the winter wheels on my AMG, you just click "Reset" in the car and voila, all done. No special transmitter tool and ridiculous procedure. Idiots.

It isn't just Ford. All 3 Toyota Highlanders I had also required the TPMS to be reset by the dealer. While Toyota only stored 5 frequencies (Spare tire), Lexus at the same time had the ability to store 9 to accommodate Summer/Winter wheels.

We wouldn't expect anything less for a vehicle being upwards of $80K (in CDN).
