I have a 96 Explorer, AWD, 5.0 with towing package. How do you think it will handle an 18 foot travel trailer with a hitch equalizing system, having a dry weight of 4300 lbs? It will also have an electric braking system installed on the explorer.

blowing around by passing semi

I have already towed it about 14 miles to where I have it parked with a car with flashers on behind it because the explorer is not wired for the brakes or lights yet. It pulled fine, but I have read different reviews on the internet about semi's that pass in the same lane or going the opposite direction that blow the explorer and trailer around. Have you had any experiences with that problem? And with the towing package that has a transmission cooler, and driving with the OD off, should the transmission be Ok even if I go over a mountain pass? Thoughts, anyone?

You should be fine.

I tow a Jeep on a tandem trailer with my '99 4.0 SOHC with no problems.

Good luck ....
