Hi all. Haven't posted much; thanks in advance for any advice or help.
So here's what's up: I was driving (good start, right?), and when I had decided that I was done driving, I decided to park (seems like the perfect ending). But then... (cue suspenseful music)
Just as I moved my shifter up to park, it happened. My shifter, which has never gone fully to the "P", went to it's normal position, centered over the space between "P" and "R". But when I removed my foot from the brake pedal, my truck starting rolling and the transmission started making a "thunk..thunk..thunk" as if it were trying to get into Park but not actually following through. I then braked, shifted to Neutral, then back to Park. Everything seemed fine... or was it?
It happened again a few days later. An ASE Certified mechanic attached to the same ship as I am (FFG-43, holla!) suggested I jiggle the shift linkage to see if it was loose. Apparently, I mis-jiggled (or maybe I jigged when I should have jagged), and now when I "Park" and eventually try to start up the truck again, I have to finagle the shifter one direction or the other to get it to crank because the car doesn't realize it's in park, and sometimes I have to go all the way to Neutral.
Is there a fix for this, or am I going to have to replace the linkage?
[/miniature drama]
P.S. Unrelated, but equally annoying- slight engine knock, ~900-1100 RPM idle. 106k miles.
Also, no AC...
... and this morning, strong smell of coolant when I turned on the windshield defroster.
