Transfer Case leak

I have a trasnfer case leak problem...transmission fluid is appearing on the hatch door. I was told it had a whole in the transfer case...the leak is in the center of the vehicle close to where the back tires are. How big of a deal of getting something like that fixed..& costly?

center of vehicle near rear tires could be the rear differential, is there any way you can post a picture of the leak and surrounding area please? No way to tell without it.
