My tranfer case is making a funny ping ping sound every once in a while when I change direction and there seems to be a lot of slack in the driveline. I'm guessing that the chain needs to be replaced. As soon as I get a job I'll be tearing it down. Have any of you rebuilt your own transfer case yet? Can I get away with just a chain or do I need a whole re-build kit? Or am I guessing wrong?

Or, how bout getting a job, then getting an Atlas II ;) Well, if things don't turn out right, I'll have one available for sale in the middle of summer
Pete

Not gonna see an Atlas II under my truck. At $2400 US that would be close to $3800 Canadian at today's exchange rate. I'm not going to spend that kind of money on a transfer case!!!!

Paul, don't drive it anymore than you have to. If the chain is that loose it will rub a hole in the case, and there goes the gear lube, followed closely by the case. I've seen it happen to a couple of fullsize B/W cases.

When my transfer case blew up, it cost $1300 to tear down, rebuild, and reinstall.

They ended up replacing everything inside it.

I'd call around for the cost of a rebuild kit.

And then think of hitting the junk yards for one.

Hey Paul, I've got a good xfer case from my '92 Sport I'll sell ya for $150 US (That's $235 Canadian as of yesterday's exchange rate). The case is in very good conditon.

Jdraper

Hey is that case an automatic or lever operated, if it is a lever I'll take it

It's pushbutton. I don't know if it could be converted or not.

No, it can't be converted to manual. The shift linkage is on the opposite side.
