My Dad has a 1994 4x4, and its somehow putting automatic transmission fluid in the engine oil. Any ideas why?

The only time Trans fluid gets near engine oil is if the transmission modulator is bad. It get sucked up a vacuum line and into the intake. Other than that, I can't think of any place trans fluid could get near engine oil.

yep..what Maniak said. If the tranny vacuum modulator goes bad, it can suck tranny fluid down the vacuum line into the motor.

Check Glacier991's threads on the A4LD trannys, I know that there is something on the modulator there. A quick way to check it is to pull the vacuum line off the modulator (located on the passenger's side of the tranny behind the heat shield) and if trans fluid comes out of the line when you disconnect it, then the modulator is bad. By the way, if the auto parts store can't find a modulator valve for a '94 explorer, tell them to give you one for an '88 Bronco II, that's the only way that I could find one here. Good luck!!
