it can? i thought it only caused misfires and vibration, but not a shifting issue, didnt know that, thanks for teaching me!!!

Yep, on my 99 when my abs sensor went out in the rear diff it would shift so hard it would jerk forward I replaced it and it shifts like a dream now

Well I'll see about getting a pump to suck the fluid out, and then I'll drop the pan and take a look.
