Transmission Misbehavin'

I just had the trans moment while driving my wife's Explorer. I was coasting for a traffic light which changed before my arrival. As I got back on the gas to accelerate there seemed to be reduced power / no power and then the trans slammed into gear so hard you'd swear you got rear ended. It's going back to the dealer for another try at fixing a nagging water leak, so I guess this will get added to the list. Sigh.......
Mine did the same thing ...... My wife swore that we were hit from behind, except there was no one behind me!

It has not happened again since the PCM update was made. Of course, it took 3 1/2 months to happen the one time....... it'll be a long time before I can declare it fixed.

I had this happen to my 2012 XLT three times this weekend when my wife and I were driving back from the Coast. I've also noticed the low power accelleration (thought it was just me). Guess I'll be calling the service department tomorrow.

Is there a TSB to reference?

Hi C. Randall,

I'm happy to get this escalated and into the hands of your regional customer service manager for you. All I need to get started is a private message (PM) from you with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name. I'll get the ball rolling!

Took our 2013 in Wednesday AM for the shifting issue, torn door weatherstriping, misaligned hood, and a glovebox pin that was trapped by the passenger airbag (preventing access to cabin filter). I mentioned the 12-10-10 TSB.

The service department had it completely done and ready to be picked up in 24 hours. Service advisor said the TSB sounded applicable to the issue, and one of the techs ran into the issue before and had used the TSB.

So I guess time will tell. I think if I don't see the issue for a month I'll consider it fixed. Also, I have been very pleased with Patriot Ford in Purcell, OK. We purchased from them and had a really good experience, and their service guys are also great to deal with.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, nnichols. It sounds like your dealership took excellent care of you!
