Transmission not going into gear properly

I have an 02 explorer. If I put it in drive it does nothing. If I move it up to 3rd gear then back to drive it goes into gear and everything is fine. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem, any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

First thing scan it for trouble codes.

There are no codes when I had it scanned. I went for the high dollar scan with the big computer.

Did they drive it and get any real-time data from the solenoids? I have done that with ForScan before, then I compared the readouts to the solenoid firing order. I'm afraid I don't know much more other than these transmissions are not durable and fail due to bore wear and solenoid packs in particular.
