Hey guys. I have a 96 XLT, with 165K mi. I think the automatic transmission may be failing. I first noticed a whining sound when I was accelerating onto the highway ... Then I noticed the transmission shifting funny. So I checked the fluid, and it was low. I figured a leak. So I filled the fluid back up to level it should read. Seemed to work, but still acted funny when just started.

I took it to the airport where it sat for 5 days, and the whining came back when I got close to home. Checked the fluid again, it was low and I added more. Since then, when I check the fluid it seems overfilled! Duhh! Still acts a little funny until it warms up.

Any insight from y'alls experiences??? What do you recommend?

Make sure it's not overfull. What exactly do you mean by "acts a little funny"? You need to be more specific with the symptoms/problems in order for us to help. There are hundreds of things that can affect tranny operation.....

what engine do you have, V6 or V8?
