transmission problems ?

I have a 1994 4X4 Eddie Bauer. It is in decent shape except for the drivers side fender (I can't seem to find one anywhere) The motor has 208,000 miles on it and it runs pretty well. I bought it only for $700 as a project. The guy said the transmission was just replaced. I am thinking maybe he meant it was rebuilt. Anyway it does look like the transmission has been dropped anyway (seal looks new)


My only problem so far is that when it is in the "small" overdrive d (drive) it will start off in 2nd gear then go through all the gears correctly all the way to overdrive. If I start in the "big" D (not overdrive) then it will start in 1st and go all the way through the gears fine. (no overdrive like it should be)

I have reverse, and everything else works great.

I have only about $1,100 into it including the cost of the truck)

I have installed new ball joints, radius arm bushings, rebuilt the transfer case motor, and installed manual hubs. So I am not doing to bad so far ..

What do you think, is wrong with the tranny?

I would suspect the valve body. Read the sticky in the transmission section called the A4LD valve body rebuild diary for more information.
