Is it possible to put a 1998 Ford explorer Eddie Bauer V8 AWD transmission in a 1997 Ford explorer Eddie Bauer AWD V8.

afaik yes! physically they wilk bolt up for sure, not sure if there were electrical changes though, but if anything they would be relatively minor, as there were no majot system redesigns that im aware of at least! and welcome to EF!

Welcome, and yes. The 98 is a better 4R transmission, and it requires rewiring the connector on the side of the trans, plus a DTRS(range sensor) that is exactly like the one from your truck. So order a new DTRS, and move a few pins around in the trans connector, and it will work just like the original trans did.

You will also want to use the range sensor from the 97 because in 98 they went digital and the trucks computer will not recognize
