Transmission Temperature Gauge

I'm looking to put a transmission temperature gauge on my '93 XLT 4x4. I pull a travel trailer and it always makes me nervous not really knowing if the tranny is boiling or not. I do have a cooler on it, but I'd like to "see" what's going on.

Anyway...does anyone have experience with this? Where to buy? How to install? Please let me know soon...I'm taking an interstate trip in about a week. Thanks,

I have never done this but I have read how to do it. I think if you get an Autometer Gauge that would be your best bet. I think to hook it up it needs to be tied into one of the lines going to the cooler with a T if I remember correctly. Autometer does have instructions included with their gauges that are pretty good.

My father had a trans temp gauge in every truck he has ever owned. Get the gauge from b&m. they stand my their products. Never had a problem. Installing one in my own truck as we speak. If you can hold a screwdriver correctly, you can install this gauge.

July 2000 issue of Trailer Life magazine talks about installing a temperature probe in the transmission pan and one in the line coming out of the transmission to the cooler. Add a two way switch to toggle between the two probes using the same gauge. Then you can tell how well the transmission cooler is working. The low in pan temperature is around 140 degrees F, but that is for the E40D transmission.
