Jim,

The dealer will program your remote but I recalled seeing this on a previous post so I cut and pasted for you. Let us know if it worked for you, I am curious in the event I run into this problem in the future. Should you ever need an additional remote they have them on Ebay. Below are some current Ebay links for manuals and remotes for a 96X.
Owners Manual 10.00

Used Remote 14..99

"It's not hard to program them at all. You basicly turn the ignition on and off 5 times, then when you hear the door locks lock and unlock, you have 5 seconds to push a button on the remotes(must do all remotes at the same time). This will then program your remote to your truck. I watched the Ford Dealer do that to my truck. When I bought my truck one of the remotes didn't work and they gave me another one, free of coarse, We then went to the service department and they did the above in order to reprogram the remotes. It tells you in the owners manual how to do it also"

thank you, i did not receive a owners manual for the truck when i bought it. you have been very helpful.

Jim
Let us know if the instructions worked, if not, perhaps somebody else has more information to help you solve your problem.

Thats it , turn the ignition on and off 5 times and the door locks will cycle . Once they cycle, press the lock button on the remote(s) and it should lock the doors . Once you turn the ignition key off , the door locks will cycle again to let you know it's out of programming mode .

Lemon Drop

What about the panic button, does this need to be programed?, or by programming the door locks this will also program the panic button. I really should read my manual but I'm too lazy to get it out and read.
