Trckmagik's Tranny temp guage install..Pics

Just follow the line that enters the trans cooler and back track the line to the tranny. On mine it's the one on top. I also installed my OBDII scanner and monitored the temps while at idle and while driving and the temps on the scanner and on the trans temp gauge where very close in readings.

Holy crap! OKay I just called Transwerks.

I have it BACKWARDS.
The bottom line in the A4LD is the OUTPUT

He suggests the line out from the trans enters the radiator first at the top, then to the cooler at the top.
Out the bottom of the cooler and into the top line on the trans...

GLad I checked! I have mine backwards,
I was getting ready to install a new line this weekend (I have rubber lines, one is cracked) so I am glad you guys brought this up and I checked :)

Could explain why my trans was hitting 210 degrees in stop and go traffic, the reason I installed the 10" fan (not wired up yet)

I will make Moab, I will make Moab...

I woulder if the lines are the same in the A4LD and the 5R55E.....

I believe most Ford transmissions are the same, but you can call your tranny shop or anybody with the right book and find out.

I was told by Transwerk all Ford OD auto's are this way
he even verified he was right and looked it up while I was on the phone.

A good Ford service tech/department could also tell you.
then there is the start it up real quick method :)

Brian make sure you have that temp sender in the right place, meaning follow that line to the trans and see which one it is, if its the bottom then you are reading the temp of the fluid before it is cooled.
If it is the top then you are likely reading the temp after it is cooled.

Hmmm........good to know. Thanks for checking. What type of hose are you running? I was thinking fuel line would be fine right?

I am running 3/8" rubber transmission cooler line, the good stuff from Autozone, $1 a foot.

When I converted my BII from a 5 speed to automatic I didnt have the factory metal lines for a BII, so I simply cut the 4 ends of the metal lines from the donor explorer about 4-6" in length, then flared the ends with a flare tool.
Works great.

Now check THIS OUT:

This sucker will work with any mechanical or electric temp gage (Autometer in my case) and allow you to adjust the temp at which the fan comes on :)
I just ordered mine, this will allow me to run the wire from my gage to the fan controller, and also run a manual switch for override, and also a LED in the cab to let me know the fan is running :)

Not easy to find that sucker either! I knew somebodyt had to make one, I spent hours searching Google.

I am surprised the gage makers (Autometer) dont give you a function like this, so when your temp gets too hot you can set off a warning light, or a relay for fan/cooler controls......

Well, I just checked under the X and I have the sensor on the bottom line, not the top so I am OK. Kern, I replaced the steel line with steel braided because it made installation much easier to the Y connector. The cost was about $40 with quick disconnect fittings and 12' of 3/8" braided hose.

TrckMagik - Here is the link to the tranny pan for the 5.0's:

http://www.yourcovers.com/tp_9324.htm

$145.00 to $245.00 - depending on which finish your want. I bought one for my X, but have not installed it yet. I was going to put my sensor in like yours, but after this discussion, I might just tap the pan and put it there. :chug:

Do they make aluminum tranny pans for the 4.0 automatic-(4r55e) with the temp sensor fitting.
