Trouble shooting help need on "cranks with no start"!

Sorry, I have been real busy lately but I sent it to a friend and told him what I had checked, then i got the call it was a timing issue apparently he thinks the chain tensioner broke and let it jump time he is going to verify which set since he says it has a rear & front set hopfully the front. He talked to some friends and they told him this was a fairly common problem on these explorers. I will let you know when I have more news and thanks for all the help. Brandon

Thanks,
I just was curious.
Hope things work out for you.

Since my baby rolled over and died in a very similar fashion the other day I'd be interested in any progress you may have made.

I've done most of the same diagnostics you have with the exception of swapping the cam and crank sensors and I don't have access to the necessary test gauges. Good spark, fuel flow (not sure of the pressure) etc... but it won't start even with using the starter spray???

One interesting difference for me is that my check engine light has been on for a while. When I was able to check the code then it was a P0131 (o2 Sensor) error. I swapped sensors around at the time but was never able to keep the error from returning. Does anyone know if an O2 sensor would prevent ignition.

My suggestion is call the dealer or some garages that specialize in fords.
Ask them if the o2sensor can create your problem.

I think that this board has most of the options to look for.
The only thing that we haven't talked about is the timing.
My understanding is that timing is a function of the computer and of course the timing belt and its components.

Thanks, I'll let you know what I find.

just keeps getting worse!!!!

Well my mechanic called me today and tld me when the timing jumped it also bent several valves in the head, so now I have to invest alot of money and labor to fix this engine or find another one. I am starting to regret ever buying ford!!!!!!!!!!!! Brandon

check your inertia switch located on the passenger side. Imagine you sitting in the P/S seat and stretching out your legs. To the right of your foot is where the swich is. During accidents (rollovers) it will click and stop the fuel. I think I got that code before too. Swapped out all 02 sensors just so it could stay on. Had trouble keeping it alive when it was cold outside and the colder it was the more it would rev up and down and die. Was just the intake gaskests and cleared up that code.

Thanks for the info on the thread here too. I am having the same problem and notice I can hear the pump, power is going there, relay is energizing. I checked the Cam sensor but there is 0volts going to it with the engine on or off and there should be 1.0-1.5. Gonna check the crank sensor see what i got.
