Trying to swap to 4x4 from AWD

Hey all, I have a 97 5.0L and have decided to do the 5speed 4x4 swap. My question is what transfer case do I need? my current transfer case has the vss on the output shaft and I want to keep the speedo working.

95-97 ranger transfer cases have the vss sensor on the t-case. maybe even earlier years, but I know for sure these years do.

I could be wrong and the vss may be in the tranny. All I know is that on the AWD transfer case there is a sensor on the drivers side by the output shaft. Am I to assume this is the vss?

Yes its the vss, you will need an early BW 4406 transfer case like a 97 , there are several threads on the conversion, also a few on the 5speed swap also, use the search function and look up m5 4406 swap

What vehicles had the BW 4406 that you're talking about? I'm trying to get a plan together for the junkyard.
