I asked about taking the hitch off, since the truck isn't safe to tow...
And the new, Improved response....

Thank you for your request.

As your hitch and electrical wiring can be used to tow recreational vehicles, boats, jet skis, bicycle racks, or wheel chairs they can still be used for other towing needs; a refund is not warranted.

We appreciate your time and understanding.

Sincerely,
Karen Trumbull

...i would be so all over them if i just purchased a hitch from them just to tow one of their trailers....

So they have a problem with Explorers hauling trailers, but endorse towing wheel chairs?

There's an E-Ticket Ride!

Wait-you mean they will install a hitch to tow a recreational vehicle-yet their trailer is a no no?

Why am I so confused here? I would be all over them on this one--

I will never understand all the hooplah over towing one of these U-Haul dollies or trailers. I rented from them several times over the years, and then WHAM...no more. Mountaineer owners have no issue. Oh well!

Jeff

Yeah, that sounds a little on the "retarded" side in my opinion. Welcome to the Forum Sploder

I found out last April that they would not rent to Exploder owners. I wanted to rent a motorcycle trailer to attend a rally. They would, however, wire up an existing hitch. So I went to Manny, Moe ,and Jack, bought a Reese hitch, and had the monkeys at Uhaul wire it up. In the meantime, I bought a nice Chinese folding motorcycle trailer of the Internet. After 9 months, the electrics on the hitch for the trailer went to ****. I only got to tow with it one time. I went back to UHaul, and they said I was SOL, it would cost another $75 to fix it. #### em', I bought a Hoppy setup, tore their crap out, and wired it up with the Hoppy. No worries. Screw UHaul!

Is U-Haul the only company which wouldn't rent a trailer to somebody with an Explorer? I remember reading in another thread a year ago that U-Haul once had a law suit because some Explorer flipped over while towing, and tried to sue U-Haul. It was most likely the driver's fault, not the Explorer or the trailer.

I had always wondered why it were the UHAUL company wouldn't allow explorer owners use them I heard from some lawsuit but never heard exactly "why" glad my dad has a trailer i always use when hauling stuff but that sucks for the rest of people that don't own one or know of one to borrow.

That's where you say..I bought a "Trailer Hitch" not a "Bike Hitch"

More than likely, it's the same one. According to the guys at Uhaul, it was some chick that was suing.

I've driven my truck through some very twisty mountain roads with numerous hairpin turns and such without any issue. It's a major bummer when the lawyers get involved and create a hype that doesn't really exist.

u-haul in wyoming let me rent a trailer and when i returned it in indiana the guy was like they shouldn't have let you rent that. lol it was a 92 nissan patherfinder. did it twice

It was Ford that pointed the finger at U-Haul. The Explorer she was driving rolled do to one of the infamous Firestone tire blow outs. She was suing Ford and Ford said U-Haul's trailer was faulty and sued U-Haul.

U-Haul said f**k this and refused to rent to anyone with an Explorer after the lawsuits were over.

So I guess ultimately Thank you Ford for pissing in u-hauls corn flakes?

Ford said U-Haul's trailer was faulty

Wouldn't suprise me if it was. A U-Haul POS trailer almost took out my Ex - one of their vintage 1947 bias-belted tires lost pressure at 55mph on the highway and the damned thing started swaying like crazy. I think the only reason I didn't jackknife or roll over was that I didn't use the brakes - just got off the gas and let her coast to a stop.

Just get a Mountaineer Badge on the Gate before you head over to U-Haul

...i do, i live where mickey mouse rules, lol...:D

I still like to know how U-haul expects you to tow boats, jet skis, bicycle racks, or wheel chairs? I'd especially hate to be the person being towed in a wheel chair doing 120 Kmph down the highway. Maybe that is why they won't rent to explorer owners? Since all that bs over the not renting to explorer owners, I don't even think of them as a company for renting anything from. Even when I need something for my Olds Intrigue. I'll go to Reese or whomever else.
