I have a different hood than the one whch came with my Mounty-on it is a light!
My original hood had no light. I would very much like to wire this in. I do seem to have switch near the airbox area-
Could someone show me the wires to use? I'd bet they are in the harness somewhere.

Did you put the cowl hood?

Mine does. I'll have to see where the wires go later. I've got to leave for a bit.

If I am not mistaken it only has one wire going to it. +12v
It grounds its self to the hood and the switch is actually in the light its self. You close the hood so far and the light turns off.

yup! thats correct..the "switch" is actually in the light assembly
curious to see how it looks
neither my 04 eddie or my 01 sport have lights and i've been thinking of gettin a white LED neon tube and using that but not sure

OK, Thanks-
There are 2 wires going all the way to it-but the harness was clipped by the yard. there is just enough to make the bend around the hinge.
I'll ground it to the firewall and look for an unswitched 12v source-

you can always extend the wires..but yeah get a good ground and 12v source and it should work:thumbsup:

It uses a simple mercury switch. You can add an under hood light by buying one from Radio shack if you aren't lucky enough to score a complete assembly from a bone yard. If you really want to make it sporty I suppose you can buy a socket from AZ or buy the LEDs from RS and encase the switch and socket in epoxy using some masking tape for a mold.

I'm shocked your 98 mounty did not come with one?
Like every gen II truck I have ever seen has a under hood light??? weird...

It was an ex Oklahoma State toll booth vehicle. That could explain it.

JT I would aslo guess that the power wire for your light is likely in your harness waiting to be used....I would check before running a new + wire

Well would someone tell me which one it is?
If you could trace the 2 wire harness back to the firewall I'd be much obliged.
My wires are green with pink stripe and black-
what color is the power wire in the harness? Is there another plug near the firewall, or is the hood light plug hardwired to the harness?

its a little grey connector near your wiper motor...let me see if I can get a pic

JT I removed my under hood light since it wasn't working and replaced with with a after market fog light, oval in shape, the kind that you would find on a honda or something. I put one under my hood and one under my rear pumper. I just ran a switch under the hood by the fuse block on the drivers side to turn it on and off as needed. Its super bright, and the lights swings on the bracket so I can shine it on either side of the engine. I'll try and post some pics after work.

The schematic does not show an underhood light circuit for 98. I think the light and its wiring may have been "thrifted" after 96....

yeah my 01 doesn't have the light either :dunno:

I just checked the diagram and AFA I can tell there is no wiring for it either, did you try to just run it to a constant power source to see if it works?
