I bought a set of Uniroyal Laredos for my 97 3 years ago. 40,000 miles later the tread is barely used. Best tires I've ever bought....
I'm not sure what the date code is, but definitely an old tire. It was properly inflated.
This was the spare - a replacement for the OE "exploding Firestone" Wilderness AT tires.
Not more than a few hundred miles total on the tire, despite it's age.
Last four of the DOT code are U489 - I assume that means 48th week of 1999 - sounds about right.
hey, what happened to the "Uniroyal tires suck" title?
Sams Club just sold me some Michelins made in 2011 and 2012. At registration, Michelin gave me full warranty for 6 years.
I think/hope that the tire rot happens in presence of UV light, not in storage.
OK, correctly is because of the Ozone. It is a super powerful oxidant.I suspect that's not the case - the one that failed on me had a very comfortable existence in the shade, tucked up under the truck.
