updated CarPuter pictures

I went ahead and started on the XM today. Here are a few pictures. I started by JB Welding the shroud onto the radio surround. Then I put on the first coat of Bondo Ultimate.

I then trimmed up the bondo a little with a knife before it got hard... sanded a little, and hit it with the second coat.

These are the last pictures I took before I called it a day. Most of the sanding is finished. I may have to skim it with more filler tomorrow....I wont know til I sand a little more.

First let me say that it really looks good moulded into the console. Now I am going to show my ignorance. What exactly is a carputer?

Is the part under under the seat basically a functional computer and you just use the touch screen or something?

I was going to build a laptop mount for my X (when I can). I want one similar to the jotto desk. All my Software is on it for work and a travel a lot, so thats my thinking behind it, as well as I have undesrstand I can get naviagtional software/hardware for it.

The carputer is basically a home computer or laptop adapted to work in an automobile. Mine uses a touchscreen, but I have a backup mouse in my center console. Some people use screens like mine with their laptops... kinda like a automobile docking station. If you are interested in building one you should check out the message board at Mp3car.com, or feel free to ask me anything.

Oh I see now. Hmm...something to think about and research a little. That takes up alot less room tham laptop desk. Thanks for the information.

Here are the final sanding pictures. I ended up sanding a little and hitting it with one coat of glazing compound. I then wet sanded it with 400grit. You can see the hole in the back for the cable of the radio... the end of the cable it pretty big. You wont see the hole when it is mounted.

These pictures were after I coated it with Duplicolor Spray Bedliner. It turned out pretty good I think. I hope to have pictures of it installed in a few hours.

It's looking very good so far...I have been thinking about a carputer, but money is tight now, since I'm going back to school and moving into a house with some friends.

Next comes my Double Din touchscreen radio and molding a monitor in my upper console. I need to measure to see if I can make a 7" screen fit between the visors.
