I am not sure what I have in mine. Take the price of your desired computer with 12volt power supply, add $200-$600 for your touchscreen, about $50 for wiring+ double shielded RCAs, and about $150 for GPS software with antenna. If you are paying someone to mount your screen and install as mine is, add $500+ to that.

I decided to go with a seperate DVD HU/Monitor instead of the touchscreen. I think this setup has more stealth. This is what I got..... all of this was $289 shipped. The head-unit will play mp3s from DVD which is awesome.

I also got an overhead console from eBay for $20 shipped... I got the one for a sunroof equipped truck, which I thought was the same size, but it is 2-3 inches longer which is a good thing. This lets me put a 7 inch monitor in the console without conflicting with the visors. With the non sunroof console, I could only fit about a 5.6inch screen- anything wider would keep the visors from operating.

I got started on the overhead console today. It turned out to be more difficult that I thought. I planned on getting rid of the seam where the tan and black parts meet, but I found out that the electronics have to be put back in with the two pieces separated. So what I plan to do is leave the front bezel removable as to install the electronics and remove the seam on the rear portion. The part where the sunroof button hole is now is where the screen will be molded.

I figured I'd take some pictures of the outside of my truck so you all will know what all of this work is going into. I ditched the mud tires for now, and went back stock. I will soon be installing some black/silver lip 20's with some 275/55/20 Bridgestone Duelers. I like these tires because they have a nice rim protector on them. I might go with the BFG ATs, but they are terribly expensive.

That looks identical to my 01, except for the roof rack.

how much do those screens go for?

Except mine is sitting a little higher :) Mine is still sagging in the rear a little. I have an Add-a-leaf but I am too lazy to put it in. My 2000 has funny options, it must have been special ordered. It had the Mach radio, Reverse sensors and Homelink.... but no leather. I know a guy that has an Eddie Bauer with cloth when leather is standard, so it is possible to get funny combinations of options.

Mine sits lower in the rear as well. I have shackles made, but am too lazy to get them put on (so far).

I agree about the funny option packages. I do have the homelink (whatever thats for), but not the sensors or the fancy radio. In fact, I am not even sure my radio works. LOL

As far as I know, mine is just the XLT with a "sport package". That seems to just be painted step bars, fender flares, grill, bumpers, and larger tires/wheels.

The stuff came in this morning so I went ahead and installed it. I ordered the 6.5 inch screen instead of the 7 because it looked as if the 6.5 came out of the dash more. If it wouldnt come out enough, it wouldnt open up all the way and because of how deep the units mount..... but I found out when I opened the box that the 6.5 and 7 are identical except for the actual screen... oh well. I had to trim the install kit a good bit to get the HU to fit. The faceplate of this radio is wider than my old radio and it wanted to rub on the install kit. The only problem I have is that the face wont open up all of the way because of how far the volume know sticks out. It isnt really a problem though, it opens enough to get disks in/out.

all i need now is advice on how to set up everything as clean and neatly as u did it....

ok now i know :) ;) :D

after i saw a picture of this guys truck with a cd changer installed in the globe comparment i though it would be good to install my dvd player in there as well, it seems like it would be very easy to access, i would also like to use some of the blue stuff to cover the hole it has underneath that would help to keep it in place

now, after i looked at ur work on the xm controller wich i think was great i kept asking myself if i could do something similar with my screen, since the metal bracket i have installed blocks my air vents, and looks bad ...... my screen keeps on getting scratched because i have to take it off all the time

note that i pulled the whole mount just fit the screen behind the plastic so that u get an idea of what i want!!!

i really wanna get rid of the bracket it makes my inside look like crap :thumbdwn:

The only problem I see with putting your screen ontop of your AC vents is having something solid to mount it to. If you were to mold it on like I did my XM controller, the weight of the screen would probably break it off. I would mount it in the console like I did mine. Another option would be to put the screen where your radio is now and move the radio to the center console. There is an install like this at mp3car.com.

this is a picture of a truck I saw on ebay. You could put your screen in the console like his and put you DVD player in with the HU with a Double Din kit. It will take some work getting the DD kit right, but it looks good when finished. I lost the trim piece that goes around everything like this one does. I dont remember who makes this kit, but I got mine for free from sounddomain.com with my old radio. The DVD player would have to go under the radio because there wont be enough room for you radio to open up if it is on the bottom.

you do not need the kit to do a double din as it is simple and I have done it nad it looks decent..

true it can be done without a kit, but the kit makes it easier and gives you a more solid install. The weight isnt just sitting on the shelf in the dash, it is also supported from the sides. I wouldnt want to mount a flip out screen without the kit..... and you get the nice trim ring. Not bad for $10.
