Urgent PLease: Dropping Trans pan

Sorry for what might be a stupid question but I'm having no success at dropping the pan on my 97 SOHC, 5R55E. It won't clear the cat or the drive shaft. Do I have to remove one or the other? Which is best?

Appreciate any quick help, car is on jackstands.

Same thing happen to me...on jackstands, tranny pan bolts removed mess eveerywhere and unable to manuever the pan to get it down. Yes you have to remove one or the other. There is a post about it somewhere on the board which you might be able to find with a search.

I did not drop the pan completely as I did not want to remove the driveshaft. I was able to install the new internal filter and wiped the inside of the pan with a rag as best I could without dropping the pan. I did have to reuse the original gasket which was still intact.

Should have mentioned this is only for the SOHC.

Thanks for the quick reply. I found that thread you mentioned (I really did look myself before asking but missed that one). Looks like driveshaft is the easier of the two.

I plan to install a drain in the pan otherwise I'd do what you did and be done with it. What a pain!!

yeah...I wish someone would have helped me out when I had it on jackstands. I too didn't see the thread about removing the driveshaft until I had everything back together again. Otherwise I would have researched the driveshaft removal and done it the right way. If possible, you may want to link that thread here for people with the same problem in the furure.
