I have a 94 Explorer Limited that I am planning on installing switches on. I am installing at least one switch in my truck. One for the amplifier and maybe one for a set of cruising lights. I do not smoke, so inside the ashtray is a possibility. Has anyone else ran switches inside the ashtray? That's where the switches in my Cougar wound up being. I do not want to drill any holes in my interior. My truck has a perfect interior. No drilling please. All suggestions are more than welcomed. Thanks!

I had a big switch in the ashtray where the cigarette lighter socket was. I'd mount your switches under the driver-side dash.

I have a switch for my amp in my ashtray. I will try and get a pic of it tomorrow. Its a pretty easy install. Just take the ash tray out drill a hole in the back. Put in the switch and run the wires where they need to go.

Heres the picture

Don't know what deck you have, but my kenwood has an amp-turn off right on the face. Just hold the AM button, kills the SW RCA signal. Granted this doesn't turn off the amp, but mutes it.

I realize you wrote "No drilling" but check out the thread below:
Hella Driving Light swtich in Stock Fog location If I had a stock fog switch I would have replaced it with the same switch in in the picture (Radio shack carries them in diff colors for under $5). I have a red switch for my yet to be installed back lighting.

I don't see why you don't want to drill. If you drill properly the switch will cover the hole and stay seated. If you ever sell the vehicle just leave the switch in.

the best place to put switches without doing any modification to the truck is right in front of the drivers seat. I have a panel down there with 8 switches on it, its very easy to reach, is cool because no one suspects that they are there, and could easily be put back to stock.

i'll snap a picture of mine in a little bit to show you

here are mine

Very Clean Wired AF  Inventive location Exp5.0; although it would take me a while to "feel" around for the correct switch to press (hopefully it isn't the driver's ejection seat) Glowin97x did a cool install. And the Ashtray location is another good place... All in All you need to decide on the kind of look you're into and the available space in your cabin to make it happen.

I'm doing one in my ashtray. I had one in the light socket but it was just shoved in there, wasn't mounted or anything. When my new strobe power supply comes I'm doing what goski did. Looks real nice.

actually- if you think about the layout of my switches with the two central ones being different its very easy to figure out which one is which.

I remember a thread similar to this maybe 2 years ago- and everyone on here has done a much better job than the people who posted back then.. congrats to all.

When I added an overhead conole to my X, I cut out the sunroof switch (I dont have a sunroof), filled it in, sanded it, then added a pair of switches up there.

Where'd you get those switches Wired? I have a switch just like those except the collar part around the switch is different, but I like yours better.

Autozone, they have a pretty big selection.
