27 damn pages of water leak issues - how the hell does a brand new car still leak using today's manufacturing technology ?

Recall on the way ?
I doubt very much that you will see a recall on this issue. While there may be 27 pages in this thread (28 now), many of the posts in it are not from those with the problem. They are posts from members commenting on the issue or suggesting solutions. I fully agree that I'm at a loss to explain why problem still exists after it was first identified in the 2011 models.

They won't do any recall at all. It is nice money for them. The day that Ford will do a recall, it's when that problem will hit the news.

It's a close race -28 pages about water leaks and 36 pages on power steering issues.

Well, I'm not at a "loss to explain why the problem still exists after it was first identified in the 2011 models" Plain and simple FORD does not care about this problem, or their customers who are experiencing it. For heavens sake, they design and build these vehicles, They have the time, money, and expertise to quickly have solved this problem, and any number of other ones....They just don't care, once they have your money, they could care less about this small annoyance to them. Now I'm not talking about the Dealers, they do try but, but come on FORD Corporate, you should be ashamed....And it seems to me not many of these persistent problems ever get permanently resolved unless they somehow think it's going to cost them a ton of money in future safety issue law suits. Ford, you can and should do a lot better!!!!!
best regards Plum

Tsb

Is there any TSBs for the water leak issue ? cant find any via my search

They have not posted any. I would assume the don't want the bad publicity on there flagship explorer

Finally fixed I hope!!!!

After 2 yrs and countless trips to the dealer I think or should I say hope my leak in my roof is finally fixed. Definitely the 1st and last Ford I will ever buy!!!! So disappointed in the brand and the crappy customer service.

Well they have posted many other TSB's so I doubt that's the reason.

Hey....do you know what they did to fix it? Mine is still at the dealer for the 2nd time and they think its from the sunroof....

I have been loving my explorer for three years now, but this water leak on the roof that we have is ridiculous, and to think I have to pay for the fix, because I'm out of warranty... F*** that, first and last FORD.
I was about to purchase a new Mustang, and/or would have considered a new explorer sport, but decided instead on a Jeep Wrangler...
By the way, I still love our explorer, just would not buy again!

Where is yours leaking? - is it from the rear 3rd row seat belt area?

Yes, it trickles onto the 3rd row seat belt on the driver side. It might be the sealant on the roof on the rear panel or the roof rail attachment...

Mine leaked there as well..the dealer fixed it in that area but its still leaking..ill keep you posted as well if they find the other source area for the leak.

Went to the dealer today after work and they called in a water leak specialist from Leakpro aka healthycar.ca or leakpro.ca - I met the owner and spent 20 mins with him talking about why the car was leaking and how many explorers he has worked on. Real nice guy and knew what he was doing - he only does warranty claim fixes and I would highly recommend him for leak fixes in the Toronto area - dealers will try to fix it first and if they can't they will call leakpro.

Hope this helps

I took mine in yesterday for the leak. A little background, I bought my 2011 XLT in January and looked for any signs of leaks, but didn't see any. This past weekend and Monday, we experienced heavy rains, some of the same that spurned the tornados in Mississippi and thats when I noticed the leak.

I picked mine up yesterday and the service advisor said that they couldn't tell immediately where the leak was, but they have seen the same thing a few times before. He said I would need to bring it back in so that they can put it in the body shop since the other Explorers that had the leak had a issue with the body seams.I have the CPO warranty and he said that it was covered (I think with the $100 deductible) and that it also covered the rental car from the dealership while the car was being worked on.

I hope this helps anyone else that is having the issue. I will report back once it has been worked on and if it is officially fixed. I'll also post any relevant info I can get from the guys working on it.

If they cant find it - I can put you in touch with the Leakpro owner to talk if needed as he is located in Toronto ...and obviously cant fix your Explorer - He maybe able to guide where the repair can be done....but im sure your dealer will find it based on their experience with it.

I just got off the phone with the Ford Customer Service Department they told me my leak issue is still being looked at (which I already knew but thats another story).

I asked her politley what her role was - as I told her I know the dealership will fix the issue and I am not not concerned about the fix as I know it will be done right. I told her my point of going through Ford Customer Service was to outline my 9 warrantly claim issues for the year (window chatter - which required pulling off the door panels to replace the power window motors) after only 3000Kms on the car...actually I had it when the car had 5kms - but prolonged the fix after the issue started to really bother me. I gave ford a pass on this - but still questioned how a car can pass Quality Control with this issue....anyways that was issue 1.....then issue 2, then issue 3, then issue 4, then issue...etc...etc......now the water leak issue which put it over the top.

I told the Customer Service Rep that in my PMs to Bianca (the Canadian Crystal) I outlined all of my warranty issues + water leak which is being fixed for the 2nd time) - and outlined my loyaly to ford....

Lets see..
1986 Tempo
1992 Cougar XR7
1993 Thunderbird SC
1996 Probe GT
1988 Mustang 5.0 LX
1995 Mustang GT
...and my 2013 Explorer

7 ford cars over 18 years.....and told her my garage is shrine to Ford that I am the ideal Ford Customer - one that you don't want to loose....I asked her point blank after telling me that there is no buy back program in Canada (which I already knew) - what the point of her phone call was. I told her I don't want my Explorer anymore and told her that I would prefer to trade it in ...and asked her what incentive would I have to get into another one (I really like the Explorer - but not mine that has had both door panels removed and put back on 3 times, both drivers & pass door sills pass and drivers - both sides removed) and put back together, and now the whole rear end to fix the leak) the water leak. I told her politey that the point of my email escaltions was to 1) Inform Ford of these issues so that the next customer doesnt have the same issues I have had - I even went as far to look up the Chicago Plant trim mgr for the assembally line so that he knew under his watch that cars are leaking...as I dont trust that my issues will get to the guys that can make a difference...and secondly to ask ford - what incentive is there for my to buy another Explorer ? she told me ask your dealer....ask my dealer? after the time I took to prepare my PMs, to outline my loyalty to ford - you tell me to ask the dealer if they can cut me a break on another Explorer really?

There really is no point to escalate things via the customer service reps...nothing comes of it...really...

18 years of damn loyaly - 7 ford cars - a garage full of ford related material - and this is the response I get...
