Wax & Cleaner Recommendations

For tire products, there is only one to look at. It is the Zep Tireless Shine. Best I have found. It is only available from car care distributors and in case of 12. find 2 or 3 buddies and get 3 or 4 cans each. also, draw the circumference of your rim using large protractor or string and pencil. cut out circle and use it to guard your rims while a spray tires.

We just received our white platinum sport, which wax did you decide on?

Ice Wax, not the Detailer, made by Turtle Wax. You can use it on about anything, including the windshield, or so it says. Leaves no white, lasts about 3 months. I like it, and use it......best regards Plum

ReJex Wax. Great for the wheels, too. 303 on plastic, vinyl and tires. Lexol on the leather. Bam!

Zymol for Explorer Finish

So getting ready to wash/wax my new MY2012 Explorer :D and was wondering the best wash and wax to use for it? The one real requirement I have is to only use wax that doesn't leave white marks on black trim.

Thanks!

We started using Zymol products when we bought our first BMW many years back and have really had good results using it on the Explorer.

It isn't cheap, but we live in the Phoenix area and it is important to protect your car's finish from the occasional sandblasting you may get on the way home or the intense UV you get in the summer. We like that their wash products don't strip the wax from the finish and we don't have to keep reapplying it (wax) everytime we wash the car.

We were especially concerned about plastic components like bumpers and such since they have a different paint applied to them than the metal surfaces. We use Zymol Detail Wax on those items and have never had a problem out here where intense heating and cooling in the summer can really challenge these finishes. The Explorer has HUGE plastic bumpers and body panels. We also use their Soft Seal product to restore rubber door and window seals that get very dry and cracked out here in the sun.

But most importantly, we have never, never, never...and I mean never been so lazy as to run any of our autos through a car wash, even the so called 'No Touch' with the high pressure sprayers. We would rather leave it dirty than subject the finish to that kind of abuse. We just use a soft water garden hose at home and wash the car in the shade.

We try to keep the Ex clean, so we can put the car cover on at work during the day, but otherwise, it can be a challenge keeping up with it since we're constantly on some backroad up in the mountains in the summer or snow in the winter every free weeeknd we get.

Our truck is Tuxedo Black, but you will appreciate the effect of the Zymol on any colour car you have. A little Zymol goes a long way.

Good luck, from Sunny Arizona.

Thanks for the input guys. I went with Ultima products as I have used them in the past and they are easy to use and give great results. For the masses of plastic I have started the truck off with Motor Kote by Sonus. It received really great reviews.

plan on treading our white sport to the full zaino treatment once or twice a year, and meguiars ultimate product lineup in between.

One great Wax

Collinite 845 is one great wax. Used it in GTO and SRT8 it is a liquid that leaves no residue and goes on very thin and wipes off easy. my wife's challenger still water beads way after 6 months

Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0............ enough said....

You'll thank me later!!!! Just buy it and use it.......

2014 explorer sport oil change and wax questions

Hello,
I'm new to the forum, and to Ford for that matter. For the last 25 years I've been a GM loyalist. Since I'm almost at my middle life crisis and my tailblazer was 11 years old. I decided to kill two birds with one stone. With that being said I went with the Explorer Sport. So far, I could not be happier. That thing hauls ss, and manges to turn heads.

I do have a few questions though. I love to work on my own cars. I noticed what looks like an air intake or a shield under the engine. Does this need to be removed to access the oil plug? If so, how hard is it to do? Other than that is it just you're normal oil change process? Or are there any other things I should be aware of before I attempt to change the oil myself.

My next question is on wax or polish. I have the white platinum. When I waxed it last week it was impossible to see where I laid down the wax. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on wax or polishes. Really want to get that color to pop in the sun.

Thank you

The air shield your referring to is to provide cooling air to the year turbo and must be removed for an oil change. It's very simple to remove and install you will only need a pair of pliers or very strong fingers to turn the fasteners. I think there are three fasteners and it lowers out of the way, very easy to do. I don't have a suggestion for the wax as my previous vehicle was white and I have the same issue with seeing the wax.

Thanks for the help. I just wanted to be sure before I started taking things apart.

As per my PM, I have moved your post to this thread for more info on waxes.
Good luck, enjoy your ride and happy motoring.

Liquid Glass. Not cheap but simply amazing. Use it on my collector cars and the red ex. Stays on forever too. Makes my 67 Nova with lacquer look like clear coat. This is what the show winners keep secret.

+1

This wax lasts so long and is the easiest wax i've ever applied leaving no white marks on the trim. I recently tried meguires ultimate which was crap compared to 845.

I decided to go with Smartwax. I had a gift card for amazon, so I bought the detail kit. The carnauba wax worked great! Easy on and off. You could use it on the windows and plastic with no residue. Not to mention it stays amazingly clean. I just don't know how long it will last. But, fear not, the kit came with a quick spray wax as well. The leather cleaner worked great as well. You really slide right into the seats. It took me longer to wash and dry the Sport than it did to wax it.

When I picked up my Explorer I also picked up some wax and cleaners. I still haven't used the wax. I don't know what the dealer used to prep it but over 2 1/2 years later the water still beads.
