has any one purchased WeatherTech floor mats (for the front) for a 4 door Ex or Monty? i'm considering buying some for my '01 Eddie Bauer to keep the carpet looking new. i know they'll fit well, i'm more concerned about how they feel under your feet. seems like a lot of slippery plastic.

I purchased them directly from the factory store. When wet they do become a bit slippery, but not really enough to cause concern. Their design will allow the water to quickly drain down into the lower "ridges" though. When dry, they're not slippery at all.

thanks. that's what i wanted to know.

Did you end up getting these?

I have a set of WeatherTech floor mats for my old Ford Escort and thought they were great, but I decided to get a pair of Husky Floor Liners from here: http://www.floormatsnmore.com/ford/explorer/1999/husky-classic-floor-liners.html

I ordered them on a Monday and got them the next day on Tuesday. I absolutely love them! I think I could spill an entire 2 litter and never get a drop on the carpet. They stay absolutely put too. The stock floor mats always used to creep up under the pedals. The diamond tread pattern seems to work really well. They aren't slippery at all. The black also accents the console and bezel really well. I can send an image if you want.

I wish the WeatherTech full floor liners were available for 2nd-generation Explorer. Does anybody know if the 3rd-gen ones fit (can't remember how much different the 3rd-generation interior floor contours are) before I send in a new product request?

I have used them in other vehicles and there awesome... like mentioned above when dry there perfect when wet it can be slightly slippery until the water drains into those little "crevasses" not a deal breaker though for me, i would definitely not hesitate to buy them if i didn't wash my car every weekend lol

Looks like a big difference on the outer bottoms:
3rd Gen:

2nd Gen:
My very dirty Floor Liners (Been raining a LOT!, At least the carpet stays clean and the liners are very easy to clean.):

Something I noticed on the colors. Tan always looks better than black when dirty, but the black looks better when clean. My Escort has tan WeatherTech floor mats which looks surprisingly good in a grey interior. I was told to avoid grey floor mats because it shows even the slightest amount of dirt.

From what I'm understanding reading a few threads, Weathertech doesn't offer mats for 2nd gens?

They have the mats, but not the full floor liners. I'm using the mats but I'd like to put in floor liners for full protection of interior floor carpet.

Yeah, I never understood why they weren't offered. I mean, second gen Explorers "only" sold half a million a year for seven years.

That's right. WeatherTech doesn't offer the Floor Liners but Husky does. That's why I went with Husky for my 2nd Gen. The Husky Liners seem just as good as the WeatherTech liners I've had in the past, but I would think any floor Liner is definitely far superior to any floor mats.

Great, thanks for the info. I'm looking to get the "over the hump" liner for the 2nd row.
