yup I had almost had a year of drving too without touching anything with my explorer... not today

I was going downhill on a wet road with some twisities, some guy had decided to turn left which would have been ok if the people behind him in a white alero decided to put their brakes on before they got 1/2 inch away from his bumper. Therefore in my 5k lbs truck I had literally no chance of stopping bumped into the alero... didn't cuase any damage scratches, or even a dent for that matter but I still feel horrible about it.

Plus I didn't see their brake lights before I got around a turn and it was already too late. I slid about 15ft with my tires skidding (the pedal wasn't all the way to the floor though) and managed to keep it straight though.

Ah it pissed me off but it was mostly my fualt I'de have to say. stupid me!

there would have been less weight transfer to the front which would have made the rear brakes more effective and you may have avoided the accident altogether if you had a lowered truck...

Did the ABS kick in?

I didn't take a dump on you for having a lowered truck despite what I think of them.. I said it didn't add up getting AWD for winter and then slamming it down... don't crap on me becuase I won't have it you understand?. and if I had a lowered truck I would have probably smashed the headlight in... being lowered wouldn't have effected it enough becuase my tires were not getting enough traction on the wet leaves when I decided to put the brake pedal down anyway.

and Alec, I wasn't paying attention enough to it to know/remember if ABS kicked in or not. I was focused on staying in my lane and not goign to oncoming traffic or over a ditch then into the side of a rock wall while sliding down the hill.

The irony of the story is the fact I was going down to get some 89 becuase my apten chip (to go faster) is due in monday LOL

Glad to hear that there wasn't any damage, and I am impressed that some people still have the ability to admit the fact that something was their fault. Maybe it's time you got a push-bar, similar to what's on some police vehicles, in case it ever happens again.:D

I'de say it was mostly my fualt but I mean hey I was doing 30 in a 35 trying to be safe becuase of the wet conditions, bet no luck I guess.

It wasn't as close to as hard when I was in my freinds suzuki XL7 and he hit a monte carlo in the same place.
Still the only thing that got jacked up on his suzuki was his license plate bracket...... and I took mine off anyway;)

ah I was going slow..... the problem was the people infront of me were going 0mph or maybe they were reversing ? lol

going 30 MPH and you skidded 15 ft. Hmm let me do my math............your ABS should have stopped you from skidding even on wet pavement.

it was a mixture of dirty hill run off and wet leaves....I don't know if it was exactly 15 ft but I skidded for what seemed like a long time/distance. The surface was so dirty and wet It didn't leave any skid marks if that helps.

Also the fact that I was on a fairly steep hill, gravity wasn't a big winner in my book today.

ABS isn't perfect. If traction is zero, like a bed of wet leaves, ABS has to remove almost all breaking power so you wont skid. I can see how he skidded... I've done it on dry pavement.

I've done it too, actually last week in a very similar incedent as you Foo. Lucky for me it was dry and my ABS kicked in an I came about 4 feet from hitting the car in front of me...and I was going 34ish. Still stock on my X.

Back in high school I had a very similar thing happen to me in my old s-10. Wasn't anyway to avoid it. Main difference was It was on a straight road...I was just exhausted from a 12 hour shift at K-Mart (i still hear the musak) and didn't react soon enough. A dent caused by the other trucks ball hitch is all the damage I had. Glad your ok though!

Later
CP :D
