SideAction Shock?

Ok, so I pickup a set of shocks for the front and rear and finished the rear today and I noticed there is a small shock that is attached to the rear axle and the frame of the truck. I have called around looking for this part and they have not heared of it. It's Sunday and the Ford dealer is closed would this be a dealer only part?

Ah the infamous "fifth" shock surfaces once again ;)

Discount Code is not working?

Thanks for the help, oh just one thing the code for the website for the discount is not working. (not found)

I'll start the argument...Dump the 3rd shock..doesn't do very much. I had one off my '01 Explorer for 4 years with no adverse effects.

I'll take counter-point :)

I noticed when I replaced it, it was leaking, put a new one on, and I feel like it is less 'squirrelly' on bumps.

It's also called an axle dampener at most auto part stores.

.... and I shall agree with the gentleman from PA; get rid of it.

Replaced the 5th shock just recently. It was the original with about 88,000 miles. My truck had started to act unstable at above 65 mph when there was any roughness in the road, kind of "floaty" or "squirrelly". I also got rid of the Edelbrocks that had about 50,000 on them (don't buy them!). Put 5 Bilsteins on. It's steady now, even at 75 mph! And my wife is very happy!
I say put it on.
And if you are thinking about the Edelbrocks, SAVE your $!
Get Bilstein!

I was changing out my broken leaf spring last night and i kept staring at the 3rd mini shock on the top of the pumpkin to the frame in the rear. whats its purpose? should i replace it since its original with 159,000 on it? is it worth it?

its a vibration dampener...there is alot of discusssion if it actually does anything, some took it off and they felt nothing, otheres did and it vibrated some(its more subjective then anything). Its not really worth replacing. Take it off and see if you feel a differance.

I still say if you don't notice a difference it is because the original is shot.
My wife noticed I had removed mine-and I said nothing about removing it-FYI
One day I took it off, she drove it to work and called me from there saying it didn't drive right.
I drove it and by golly-I did notice a bit more of a shake in the rear view mirror image-

Now think about it for a minute-if Ford could have eliminated a $30 part from production, they would have done it--

Do you think being lowered you would feel it more than lifted?

I just wondered because it is mostly the lifted guys that say they don't feel it.

i figure that mine is shot if anything. I dont feel a vibration but what the hell, ill replace it for 30 bucks. who knows, maybe it will ride like a caddy after :) can you get it at parts store or is it a dealer order? PS. i do get enough shake in my rear views to sometimes be blurry. i wonder if this would clean it up.
