1991 Ford Explorer
Hi,

Mods feel free to move this if this isn't the appropriate forum.

I have a 1991 Eddie Bauer 2-Door / Automatic / 4 Wheel Drive Ford Explorer that's been in the family since it was purchased new in '91. I'd like to sell it, but I'm having difficulties finding comps online. Can anyone help me arrive at a starting price point? The car runs and has recently been serviced with all new: fuel pump, fuel filter, radiator, water pump, and thermostat. It has 165K miles. The shocks need replacing. The oil gasket needs replacing (is leaking a bit). One of the pulleys is squeaking when you drive. 4 High seems to run fine, but I'm not sure about 4 Low.

Here are some pictures.

The fact that it looks to be pretty much rust free ups its value, IMO. The interior is decent except for the driver's seat. If you find the right buyer, I think it could bring up to $3k-$4k or maybe a little more. Then again, I might be too optimistic.

I paid $2K for my Sport, cloth interior in good condition all around, 180K miles, needed water pump and MAF assembly, rusty rockers, front u-joints seized. Eddie's answer seems about right to me.

I would say list it for $3750 and see if you can get 3500 out of it

Craigslist and Facebook marketplace place pretty much determine the value of vehicles
I think that vehicle with lower miles worth $3500 all day long

Low range shift is done stopped w foot on brake and in neutral

Another thing that may add to its value is that 1991 is the first model year for the Explorer and looks to be well optioned. There are very few 1991 Explorers left in this condition. Especially in regard to rust. If you list it online, I would emphasize it being a first year Explorer survivor having very little, to no, issues with rust. Other things can be repaired but severe rust isn't one of them. Also, clean it up and make it look as nice as is reasonable for you to do.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I may already have a buyer but didn't have a price point.
