What is this part? Located on Master Cylinder)

Hey all - I know its my first post, but I just needed to ask a question..

Got a neighbor who has a brother-in-law who has a 1996 Explorer, and the shop is telling him that he needs to replace the below part. They are saying that this has something to do with the cruise control.. it looks familar to me, but I own an 2003 expedition, not an explorer. So what is this?

It is for the cruse control, so when you hit the brakes it shuts off the cruse control. There was a recall for the connector, because a voltage spike could go though, and cause a fire. I got the recall done, they simply added a fuse in line to absorb any voltage spikes. I don't know what the name is though, although some of the new master cylinders come with new ones.

The recall was for brake fluid running up the wires, corroding through the insulation and causing a short circuit, which could lead to a fire. The above picture has not had the recall performed. The free parts may just fix the cruise control problem.

I think the part name is the Speed control Deactivator Switch. I just replaced mine with the new style switch, from the dealer...It wasn't free though. I paid about $15.50 for the part...still no cruise. New control switches on the way.

Get it fixrd right away. You may never have a fire but it just may. Trust me my 96 f150 caught on fire, with no brake fluid present. Lukey for me i was working under the hood changing spark plugs when it happened and no other damage than a burnt switch.
