what lift should i get please help!

i have a 94 xlt 4.o and iam 16 with funds to put into my explorer all my friends have trucks with big lifts and huge tires .
what i am interested in is either a 4in skyjacker suspension lift or a 3in body lift
i have chosen the tires that i wand they are 31x10.5x15
pro comp mudterrain
im just worried that the 4in will be too high for 31's and look stupid but on the other hand the 3in body lift will not give me any more ground clearence and will have to put something up to cover up the gap and im afraid it will make it look stupid b/c it will be vertically elongated.
i am after a tough loookin explorer the tires will help but if you could help me chose which would look better i would greatly appreciate it

I would go with a 4-inch suspension lift. I think it'll look fine with 31's, but were it me, I'd go ahead and go for 32's or 33's. Not just 'cause I think they'd look better, but I can always use a little more ground clearance. :smoke:

Either way you will gain some ground clearence because of the bigger tires. Other that that i can not help you. I am also in the market for a lift kit right now.

well if money isn't an issue, hell yeah go for the susp lift! and yeah get at least 32's.

Chris N is right, you gain most of the clearance you get fron the bigger tires. A body lift will improve your approach and departure angles, but your center angle (can't remember the right word...) stays the same (other than differences due to tire size). A susp. lift would improve the approach/departure angles, but also the center angle, since it pushes the axles down from the truck, moving the center point higher up. :smoke:

I think that a 3" body lift is way too much. I would go with the suspension lift since an Exploere has crap for front travel to start with. A little more travel will never hurt.

And definatly get 32's. But you will have to get 8" or wider rims.

A buddy of mine did a 5.5" Super Lift and it worked out well w/ 33s; 32x11.50s are good too.
Buy the tires you want, then contact the lift company that you think makes a good lift, ask for their opinion about how much lift for the size of tire you chose.

Good Luck and remimber these SUVs do not really like too much height, top heavy...

as a general rule of thumb you want to put a tire on a rim no bigger or smaller than 4 inches.... lets see, a 7 inch rim and 11.5 inch tire = 4.5 inches.... it is possible but i wouldnt do it....

Not sure, but I plan to run 35x12.50s on 8.5 inch rims.

When I had my ranger I had 32x11.50s on 7" wheels and never had any problems even going 70 through the whoops. I now have 35x12.50 on my X and I have 8" wheels, no problems.

If you've already decided on 31s I would get a 2" body lift and that's it. I have a 4" Trail Master with 35s. I think 31s will look a little funny. I thought my 33s looked a little small. Good luck.

if money is not an issue...go for the 4inch suspension and the 3 inch body and you will be closer in height to your buddies with the chevys....just a thought
