dgibson

did you get the stage one or two and how is your bumpsteer and what did you do for your rear....

Choosing a lift is almost like choosing the color you like best. Its more of a personal choice. There are several lifts available for the 1st. generation X. It all depends on how high you want to go and what you intend to do with your X. There are budget lifts (1.75"- 2") for the front from Daystar, Ford (not actually a kit) and Skyjacker. Warrior Products makes lift shackles for the rear. Small lifts (2 1/2") from Rancho and James Duff. For anything higher Superlift (4"-5.5"), Tuff Country (4") and Skyjacker (6") make kits. All the available kits on the aftermarket are quality made, but they also have their highs and lows. Basiclly pick your desired height and from there choose the kit that best fits your price range.

well i went to skyjacker and i saw rangers and bronco IIs....if i ordered one from their website would i order a 6" 91' ranger lift?

to the tizop!

OKay here it goes.

If you want 2" of lift you can do the F-150 spring seats, some warrior shackles and get it aligned. Cheap and effective.

Since it is a 91 I would say your front coils are shot, so the above option is only a 2" lift, not a ride improvement.

If you want a 3-4" budget lift kit, go with the Duff Stage I. They have VERY strong drop brackets, are a snap to install, the VR coils and 70/30 shocks make for a great ride. You can then add the F-150 seats and warriors to this lift for 4-5" of lift.

If you want articulation get a Skyjacker 4 or 6" kit with the radius arms and rear springs. This is the most expensicve route, but you might as well get it over with since once you lift you will always want more lift, like me. I started out with the Duff 3" VR lift for a BII, then got some $500 Skyjacker radius arms, installed them to find out that they dont work with 3"of lift (hit the frame) so I installed the F-150 spring seats and another $350 for Skyjacker 4" rear leafs (to ditch my stiff ad a leafs and 3" block). Also I am using the Superlift 4" extended rubber brake lines and 4"drop pitman arm. Nice lift!
The extended radius arms make all the difference in the world with the TTB for ride and articulation.
Now my Duff 70/30 shocks are limiting my travel front and rear.

The Skyjacker Stage III lift is the best on the market for your truck, hands down. Superlift has it's problems butmostof those have been resolved with updated parts.

Or you can build your own lift like I did and get great results. Piece by piece.

My future plans are:
2-3" bent and widened beams (cant go 4" with ARB)
Re-move stock coil buckeets and shock mounts, build a custom coil bucket and shock hoop, run a 8" VR lift coil and some Rancho 9012's (am now thinking coilover though), This will be a 5" suspension lift with tons of travel, limiting straps, and adjustable shocks.

For the rear, if you plan to go over 4" in the front, go spring over.

Good luck! Research is your best friend before making a purchase of this magnitude.....
