Well winter is coming up and I need some new tires. I already have 31x10.5x15 tires so that's what I'm going to get again. I want to stay as inexpensive as possible (obviously) but I want something that is going to look nice & beefy, not have a ton of road noise, get good gas mileage, etc. What would you all recommend? I live in the Seattle area. I mostly drive on the freeway. It rains here a lot. Winters can get icy and snowy but, again, I don't go off road so I don't need anything geared for that. Thanks guys

I am in the same boat....

I am looking to get tires in November....

I am all stock right now, and not sure what tire / size to go for.

well i can help you with the size at least. my explorer isn't lifted or anything and I have the 31x10.5x15 tires on it. They look great and they fit fine. I'd highly recommend that particular size.

now we just need to know some recommendations on what tire to go for!

So you say....lol...

Some tell me they WONT fit without trimming, some say they will fit fine. Others say stay stock its not worth it.

I have 31 x 10.5's on my bronco. I like em.

oh really? they fit mine no problem. I guess it's hard to know without actually trying. Why don't you just take them off your bronco and put them on your explorer temporarily to see if they fit?

Pro Comp ATs are Buy 3 get 1 Free until Oct 31st. You probably can get them for under $400 shipped to your door.

The owner's name is Chris. Tell him Chad from Muddy Trails Off-road sent you over.

Im curious if we both have the same clearance underneath. I WOULD try the bronco's, if i had a means of doing it.

i would love to get some BFG's. I dont see that im my budget. I place near me says he has an off brand with the same tread pattern as the BFG's.

Yeah, they are decent. Nothing crazy special, but they work pretty good. I just bought a set for a buddy earlier today.

i guess the better question would be if they are about as good or better than a set of tires for $400?

For snow/ice tires what works best is narrower tires that have a proper width for the wheels. Select tires for snow and ice by that, which is why most are generally more narrow than typical off road tires. I have two sets just for snow/ice, a 255/65/16 set, and a 245/70/16 set. Both are Blizzak tires, just about the best to have, note that they wear fast on normal dry roads. But they stick like glue in ice and snow. Good luck,

You will pay a little more, but I would go with the BFG AT KO's. I had a set on my old 73 F250 and they were fantastic on snow/ice and wore well on dry pavement. Just my thoughts..........

Can't go wrong with BFG AT's. They fit your wants with the exception of cheap to buy.

All though, I got them locally & they came to $480 mounted & balanced.
I don't think that's a bad price. Online you can get them for about $110/tire.

And for fitment on stock setup. Some fit, some don't. Just how it is. You have to test to see.

I'ved heard only bad things about the AT's, then again that was coming from a Wrangler owner.

I've had Toyo Open Country AT's on my 94 for over a year and they work great. As long as you don't have a heavy foot in slick conditions they will grip.
Fantastic in snow i didn't need 4x4 last winter except to get up my driveway once when it was iced over.

They are pretty good tires. They usually cost quite a bit more, but since you get one free it makes it a pretty good deal
