No pliers for those, sorry I thought you meant a snap ring with holes for O ring pliers.
Two screw drivers are all it takes and a tiny bit of force.
Usually with one screwdriver it will just spin around the axleshaft?
Try pushing the axle shaft in towards the spindle (from behind the knuckle, at the U joints where the inner and outer shaft meet) This might releave some tension
