Wheel Question

I have a set of these laying around. I have it in my head to coat the rims red and the "covers" smoked chrome. It may turn out clown-shoe but I still want to give it a go.

The question, how in the heck do these chrome cladding's come off?

There is a clear separation line, definitely separate parts.

Are they held by an adhesive or just by the friction? Has anyone removed these before?

these are all metal though.

edit whoops, that did help actually. I'm going to bake them and see if the glue will release like it usually does under heat.

If you are going to use heat, maybe use a few pieces of metal (screwdriver) wedged in certain places to help slowly pull the cladding away from the rest of the wheel as temperature rises.

Well, I ran a wheel thru a self clean cycle in my small oven, which is about 600 degrees. This turns everything which is not steel into white ash. Didn;t work. I tried popping the cover off while the wheel was still over 350 degrees, and damaged the stupid chrome cover so end of thread. This is too much time and energy for questionable results. Nevermind
