Wheels Will Not Balance

plain and simple you are 100% wrong in every aspect of that.

I don't know that he is. The part about doing 80-85 on the highway, maybe, but it was designed to handle 105, if it wasn't made to they would have limited it at 70mph. You can hit 90 or more if you took it out to the track to get some drag times. It should be able to handle what they limit it too.

With that being said they can still screw you over, and there is nothing you can do about it. Raise a fuss, try your best, but don't expect much.

We had a Pontiac that had a recalled fuel regulator. It broke right as the recall came out. It ended up totally messing up the motor, the dealership tried to start it and run it without checking anything and seized the motor. They said they would only replace the $25 regulator. We fought it and they couldn't have cared less. So because of that recalled part it cost us several grand to get a new motor in a car with less than 50k on it, even though it was their fault.

Good luck.

the limiter is not a speed limiter, its a rev limiter. its to prevent blowing the motor up.

the reason you hit the 'governor" is your gears are maxed out.

its also a safety for tires. since tires will be rated to that gear ratio.

same reason you hit the same governor going backwards. its only 1 gear and at the max speed before the revs are too high, it is limited.

its to prevent revving the eng to death.

Take it to a reputable tire shop and have them rebalance everything. Most places have a 30 day trial period for new tires. Get a good set put on and see how they work. If the problem goes away, its the tires, if not, then it not the tires. It could still be the wheels though. Check the runout and see how round the wheels actually are.

Point is the OP should be able to get to 80mph without any vibration. . .very least of which i would expect from a $30k truck.

I was wrong to some extent, most say the speed limiter is around 110mph . .although driving a 5,000lb truck with the aerodynamics of a brick and tires that only have an 'S' rating at best wouldn't be a good idea for your health.

And its not a Rev limiter, in the posts below there are lot of rpm's left at 110mph. My assumption is its limited because of what tires are on the truck. one guy said he got to 110mph at 2500 rpms...04 4x4 4.0 Post 133 first thread. With our V8/3.55's at 80mph its roughly around 2,000rpm and a lot of room to go. Also over 110mph aerodynamic drag starts to play a big part too. Faster that 110mph you would need ZR rated tires which are designed to handle the speed like the Mustang GT500 that has 150mph limit and a better aerodynamic shape.

Max speed threads (although honestly some of them are a little loco  ) lol

Few years back Montana had no speed limit they changed sometime in the late 90's. Now Utahs has a 80mph speed limit on I-15.

110 mph on a 4.0 explorer would be 5400 ish rpm with a 3.55 rear end and 17 inch tires.
110 mph on a 4.0 ex with a 3.73 would be 5700 ish rpm. on 17 inch tires.

the fact they took there foot of the gas and it dropped to 2500 means nothing.

17" TIRES? With a 30" tire (I dont know what tire the OP is running, but 30 is a nice round number for an Ex), With a 5r trans, 3.55 gears-- 110MPH would be around 3300 rpm.

with 30 inc tires the truck would not get up to 100 mph with out needing 5 lanes of traffic.

Are you saying that with 30" tires, you'll be all over the road so much you'll need as much room as possible?

A Speed Limiter(aka governor) is a limit set within the computer to prevent a vehicle from traveling too fast, has nothing to do with your gearing. Most 3rd gen Explorers top speed is around 105mph, which I have reached several times on stock tires(drove wonderful;)).

Now I have 20's with the Speed Limiter removed via an SCTX3 tuner and have touched 115mph. If I had the power, with my gearing, I could do nearly 190+. But an Explorer doing 190+ wouldn't be to comfortable to drive.

Edit: I don't know what Explorer you were driving, but doing 100mph is just as easy and smooth as driving 40mph in my 3rd gen(even when I had the stock 16's).

What size tire are you running?

the speed limiter / governor in my Taurus is 105mph

Why on earth wouldn't the dealer just start swapping wheels 1 at a time off another truck and see which one is out of balance. It would be quicker than screwing around with balancing. It is clearly a bad belt. If it were a rim it would be off all the time - and much more apparent on the balancer.
