This is probably best for Matt, or Ryan, but my oil jug is getting pretty full and I need to empty it, where do I take it around here?

Thanks

All Checker auto parts have oil bins. YOu have to walk in to the back of the store and its a big blue metal containor, looks kinda like a dumpster with a tight metla lid with a hole for putting in oil :). You can ask one of the employees, they'll know where its at. It works out good especially around here where we have four vehicles not counting the Explorer, and oil changes going on constantly. We have to take in anywhere from 3-5 gallons a month.

By the way, check out the thread in serious explorations "colorado saxon mountain II", we're meeting at the georgetown lake this saturday for a fairly easy but fun run.

Alright thanks Matt. And I did check out that thread and I want to go so bad but a buddy of mine is getting married on Saturday so I'll be out of town.:(

The few times I have had to do it that is where I have gone. When my dad's business went gone we had about 6 or 7 big paint buckets (The kind you stand on) full of oil to get rid of. This was NASTY stuff too. Blacker then black. Anyways everytime I took some in to get rid of it I got a weird look which is why I don't like doing that so much. LOL Now that I would have normal used oil I don't think it would be so bad though. This stuff was just bad though.

LOL well they have an uninforced policy of 5 gallons per person per month. That's probably why they were giving you the funny looks :).
People give me funny looks wherever I go, I don't let it get to me. People always ask me how tall I am. That bugs me too. LOL

I also just found out that checkers doesn't take the filters yet so I'm outta luck there but it shouldn't be long they said.

yeah, I usually just get all the oil out of the filter I can then toss it...

I keep a couple of those big orange TIDE containers around. When I get lazy and my drain pan gets full, I pour it off in those things. Great handles and easy to haul and dump at local parts place.

Note: Manly men always soak the labels off first.

Oh okay... LOL I never really knew that! They gave me the looks but never said anything about an amount so I couldn't figure it out. Oh well. Yeah you are goofy lookin.

I don't mind changing her oil... but what I meant was when I didn't see her for about 3 weeks a little while ago she pulls up and said her car was acting up and that it smelled funny. Well after looking around for a few minutes I checked the oil... Bone dry, put 4 quarts in, I can't believe it didn't hurt it, must've been the prolong.

If you have an Wal-Mart supercenter around with an TLE in it, you can drive up there and ask the TLE manager if you can dump some oil.

people often come down to mine and ask to dump some, if it's not TOO much i can get rid of it, oil filters is usually no problem at all, oil is neither if you don't bring an 25 gallon container every week ;)

just go talk to the manager....most of them work with you pretty well, and actually where you buy your oil you pay 2cts (in SC) per quart of oil to dispose the old one, that why the seldomly make an problem of it...

btw TLE = Tire and Lube Express

Uhm Oknut, no it wouldn't help your camp fire, oil needs an high temperature before it actually ignites, that not what you want to start an camp fire ;)

Hey, about the disposal of oil, take it to Autozone, they take down your name and number for their log books, but it doesnt cost anything. Oh and they only take quarts of oil at a time.

Well here in canada....

I work for a large trucking company and we deal with a company called safety-kleen And they give the company a $5 credit for every 500 liters of used oil witch can be applied to other products safety-kleen sells like brake-kleen and that stuff has more uses than WD-40

Luckily our landfill lets us dispose of it ina big tank for a small fee of 2.00 for any amount within reason...Good thing cause when the powerstroke gets changed it's 4 gallons ..not 4 quarts

Just take your used oil and either leave it at the back door of your local auto parts store after they're closed, or leave it outside of any repair shop. You know they're doing oil changes, so they must have a way to dispose of it. Then it's not your problem anymore. If you really want to be obnoxious, you can even leave a note explaining the generosity of the gift you've bestowed upon them. Don't sign your name though, anonymous gifts are much more appreciated.
