Whining Noise

I have a 2000 XLT and I have been getting a loud whining noise every once in awhile while driving down the street or sitting at an intersection. If I give it a little gas it stops doing it. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Thanks

That sounds like the IAC valve on the intake manifold. You can try cleaning it and see if that helps. I cleaned mine today actually and it hasn't made any noise yet.

I have recently cleaned the IAC valve. I may try and just replace it. However, I my check engine light came on and is giving me the codes P0171 and P0174. My Vin number has an X in it and I have read the the 00m12 recall was only on the E engine. Could I still possibly have this problem with the Intake manifold gaskets? Any other thoughts on what it may be?

Don't think that is the noise. More of a loud howling noise.

Has anyone had the Intake Manifold Gasket issue with the OHV engine or is it pretty much a SOHC issue. I seems to be having all the syptoms of this problem but have the OHV engine. The recall was only for the SOHC engine.
