Just lately picked up a 96 explorer, and the windows don't work. You can hear the motor turning on both sides when the button is pushed. I had to replace the door handle, so I thought I would tackle the window problem at the same time. Got the window motor out, gear looks good and turns. What I could feel of the gear inside, it seems good.
Do I need to lube the regulator moving parts? Am I going to have to remove the regulator too? I watched video on it and it seem you have to put the window in different positions, don't know if that can be done now.

I vaguely recall there being some issue about a bearing or bushing in them going bad. Use the forum search to find other topics about window motors.

Yes, bushings. There's three plastic bushings inside the motor that wear out. You can get them at any parts store for about $7, and there's at least one thread here somewhere on how to replace them. It's easy, I've done it.

The anticipation was worse than the job!
Taped up window, got motor out and apart without much trouble.
The hardest thing was getting the bushings in the gears. REALLY THIGHT!
Thanks
