My windshield randomly started cracking in both bottom corners. It started with the passenger side in a small L shape from the bottom to side edges, then the driver side with a crack from the bottom going up towards the center. These literally appeared overnight in the past couple weeks. It is getting worse; this morning the drivers crack was further into the middle and a small branch crack appeared. I'm guessing this is somehow due to temperature changes at night somehow messing with the windshield, while the integrity of the seam and seal at the roof edge is damaged by rust. This rust has been getting worse over the years. No water leaks or any issues till this windshield thing. i'd have thought this would happen in the winter, but it has been really hot here, if changes in the outside temp are playing a role, but why else would it happen at night though rather than while driving?
is it safe to drive in this condition? you don't often hear of windshields just 'letting go' ... but i do have a long highway trip coming up. Any estimate on cost to repair the rust and replace the windshield? Its a 96 ranger.
thanks
