I am in the process of finally receiving my explorer tomorrow or wednesday. Unfortunately its an '02 and there is no available lift kit for it due to rollover safety. If i got some 265/75/R16 BFG all terrains on it, would it give it any lift at all? Also, would it rub anywhere or should i be good with a stock setup with these new tires? Thanks guys

Thanks man! I looked it up and it seems pretty reasonable. The only concern i have is putting stress on the cv joints...even if i keep the lift at 2 inches and under.

Welcome To The Forum! I don't think Brooklyn realized you have an 02 XLS which means your truck does not have torsion bars, you have to get lift spacers for suspension lift and go with a ranger PA883 body lift to get lift from yours. Do a search for lifted 3rd gens, there is alot of info here for you to look at.

EDIT: Take a look at this thread it will tell you what needs done to lift it. Roadbully is no longer a provider for these lift spacers but there is a new vendor that is making them for your truck.

Hey glen, I think your link is wrong? it takes him to the options for 2nd gens although i guess the boy lift can be done on a 3rd gen but thats all that would apply on that page i believe. Do a search for BTF lift spacers and you should come up with this page:

The thread is for 91-09 Explorers, at the bottom is a section for 3rd and 4th gens has a how-to for the BL and the spacers but thanks for posting a link straight to the BTF spacer page.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, the frame shows real bad when you do a body lift. And spacers are iffy somewhat. Like it could mess other **** up. Am i right or nah?

Many members here are using the spacers with no complaints. Modifying a vehicle in anyway could result in some type of damage later on no matter what it is, but when your vehicle your personal preference then you take that chance.

Thats true. I just heard that if you go off-roading with spacers, it messes stuff up. I guess it all depends on what you do with it

Members are using their 3rd gens off road, if you wheel lightly you shouldn't face any problems with the CV's or anything but being that its an 02 stuff can break while out on the trails even if you are being careful, but that goes for any make/model that goes 4wheeling.

Body lifts (spacers) are great, it is actually easier to get to and work on a lot of the stuff under the truck that would otherwise be hard to access.

265/75/16's will fit with no lift kit installed. Not sure what your stock tire size is but on my truck (245/65/17 stock) that would give about an inch more of ground clearance.

You don't have to do the whole 3 inches of body lift in the PA-883 kit. You can cut the spacers in half for a 1.5 inch lift. I am getting ready to do this very thing. It doesn't require a steering shaft extension or front bumper brackets, and it won't show the frame as bad. Plus it won't change your suspension geometry like a spacer lift, so shouldn't be any harder on your ball joints than stock.

Spacer lifts don't seem to be too hard on the suspension as long as you stay around 2 inches. Combine that with the 1.5 inch body lift and you'll clear 265's easy.
