Would it be legal to mount a 5 1/2'' LCD monitor in place of my rear view mirror, but it would only be connected to a rear view camera (wouldnt play anything but the camera, 24/7). I dont think i should get pulled over but thats a major concern Bckuz i dont want to go to jail for something i just got cause i wanted something cool.

BTW im not talking about a rear view mirror with a monitor in it, im talking about completly removing the rear view mirror, and placing the monitor in its place on the front windsheild. The camera will be mounted in the rear keyhole, and has like 120degree viewing angle or something like that so ill be able to see everyone behind me.

Wont pass inspection

PLease post your question in the appropriate forum
Moving to Modification forum.

Im not worried about that. Theres ways to pass inspection trust me. Im just worried about if i get pulled over or not ?

Sorry Ray

I believe it would be ok, but I don't see the point.

1) I believe you don't need a rearview mirror if you have 2 working side mirrors
2) a properly installed rearview camera will pass as a mirror
3) but, why go through that hassle and expense just for a dedicated rear camera?

It would pass, Being that if you have both side mirrors You dont have to have a rear view mirror.... I have my monitor in my old X with out a mirror for 6 months because it broke off and I never got around to fixxing it... You might get pulled over, but they cant do anything because it serves as a rearview mirror conseriding thats all it shows...

because at night I have a little trouble seeing anyways (night blindness) and 5% tint on the back doesnt help. The camera im getting is sposed to have some sort of "night vision" or something to see at night, and also is supposed to eliminate blind spots. If i can pass inspection legally, thatd be GREAT. But not getting pulled over since i probally have something illegal in the car would be great too. HMM i wonder if theyll even be able to see it thru my tint...

High chance you'll beable too see the monitor at night throught the tint... Even when they have a blank screen their still bright... when I had the three in my old X, they lit up the cab and I was able to see eveything clearly in the cab at night... Also will cause blind spots because of the reflections off the side windows (for the ones that where in my head rest anyways)

yea i know i was kind of joking. Im going to have a switch too make sure they dont even light up when there off (each screen is going to have a switch so i can turn it on or off) because my car is a show car-daily drivier, and will one day be home to 10 screens.

10 wow and I thought the 5 I'm putting in my Exped was just enough...

not to be mean but i think it would be a waste of money.

why dont you paint your windows black and have a camera for the front?

LoL, its a waste of money.

i guess i don't see the point of having screens in there either,

i don't need anymore distractions, i need to keep my eye out for ####### driver's who almost crash into me

Don't forget that since its not a mirror everything will be flipped and that could really cause confusion. Like stuff on the left will actually be on the right and stuff on the right will actually be on the left. That could cause some serious accidents if you ever forgot or if someone else was drving unless theres a way to horizontally flip it.

Im getting 10 screens. 4 7.2" in each visor and headrest, a 7" in dash flipout, a 5" for my rear view, a 10.3" flipdown for the back, a 17.3" flipdown over the cargo, and 2 12" installed in my speaker box with my 4 15s.

i dont think its a waste of money at all. Cars are my main thing. One day im going to own a video-installation shop (startin college to get all the necessary degrees next august) Besdies Ive got money to spend. Im not worried about it.

Smoked i would but thats illegal. No Getting pulled over. LoL why you worried if I waste MY money?

Ford Racing I gots insurance. They crash into me, Im gettin a escalade with 15 screens on spinners.

Nick, its not gonna cause a problem because the camera points out just like the monitor, which will be flush mounted to the windshield. The camera is going to be in relativly the same position (directly in the middle of the x, just at the back) and neither the camera nore the screen are gonna flip in any way. The image will be alright.

I'm not sure how the tint laws are where you located but depending on how "legal" your tint is thats a red flare right there to get pulled over. Around here anyway.
