Yeah I'm running late too, guys

Hard to type with all this liquid nail on my fingers (one of which I stapled to my box incidentally :P)

I'm gonna head out around 4pm, which means I get to sit in Harrisburg and York traffic-BLAHHHH. I'll get there when I get there....!

PS-I need some SERIOUS help with this friggin box...if We're not doing much tonight, I'd really appreciate an extra hand, y'know?

See Y'all in a few,
Lindsy

Aiight, will be leaving the NY area around 6pm, the wedding reception ran long, but it was fun so it was ok.

See ya'll in a bit. Probally around 9

well I made it home with out any more problems but the ranger will be going to the body shop on monday. I hope everyone has a good time this weeknd
next time I will be out for a ride along

let me get this straight you were towing a explorer with a ranger? And you rolled it on the highway? You are lucky you didn' kill any one else on the road. You should have you DL taken away. I will be nominating you for the latest Darwin Award.

I was towing the X a towdolly and and the exploer hit a bump the X just started going all over the place and then lost complet control of everything luckly I walked away from it with out a scrach on me and was able to drive the ranger home despice the bent up bed. I will say that i hd the ride of my life last night

Sorry to hear about that Xplorin

I wish you would have seen my post of last Augusts' trip..... I had my 88 Bronco and my Explorer up at Paragon (had an extra driver) well, that was the time that I hydrolocked my engine and had to somehow bring my Explorer home..... The stupid b*tch at the Uhaul in Hazelton said that my Bronco couldn't possibly tow the autotrailer with the Ex on it because her little book said that the load capacity was like 5000lbs...... and she absolutely refused to give me an autotrailer.... but she would give me a dolly.... Well that was one harrowing ride home.... I've never towed ANYTHING in my life and it scared the crap out of me watching my Explorer sway all over the place....and it did feel like we were going to go over alot of times..... I put it out there and I will put it out to everyone. again.....I will never tow on a dolly EVER again... when I finally did get an autotrailer (for the last run I was on) it wasn't such a disaster (other than the idiot put the ball upside down) it was a nice smooth tow and my new Bronco handled it with ease...

Actually, a couple of us were discussing this (towing an X with a Ranger) the other day after his accident, and we found that the Ranger does have the towing capacity to haul the X. The maximum trailer weight for the Ranger is 6050 lbs, and the X weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 4500lbs, so it's not out of the question. However, as ExplorerEB96 said, I would definitely prefer to trailer one than use a dolly. Much more stable.

BTW bigbadford, welcome to the board!! You will find this is a very friendly board with little flaming. Enjoy!!

I agree about the auto transport that is what I used last time but the transport that I was supposed to use the guy decided at the last min that he was not going to let me use it, so I figured that it would be fine on the tow dolly, unfortuntly I was completly wrong

Thanks for the welcome!!
As far as towing a x with a ranger it was an accedent waiting to happen. Just because the receiver rating is 5000lbs doesn't mean it is safe to tow that much weight. You can put a 5000lbs reciever on a jeep wrangler dosent meen you can tow a 5000lbs 28' Donzi. The rule of thumb is tow vehicle should weigh atleast 1 1/2 or close to that of the vehicle towing. It is just a common sense thing also. Like i said glad he didn't get hurt but even more glade he didn't kill any one on the highway. Working in law enforcment i would not have let him drive on our highways with that set up. Also how fast where you going- Tow dolly max speed is 45 mph.

Was this from a u-hual. Dealer? IF so they should have know better to alow this. Ya might want to check with their insurance for coverage

not from a u-haul dealer it was a tow dolly that someone I know had, and my top speed was 50 and most uhaul dealers don't know anything about setting up the trailers or tow dollys they only go by the book they have which tells them that yes a 94 exploer will fit on the dolly you just have to dissocnect the rear drive shaft

Justin, good luck with the Ranger. If you need a hand with anything, Let Me Know, I want to see you back on the trails asap. Sorry to hear about all that.
Catch you later,
Shaun

Big Bad Ford, what kind of truck do you have? and what's done to it?:D

Accually, if the spot in the highway that I hit last nigt is the same spot in the road where XNJ rolled it is a danger...it is a dipression and then a bump only on the right side of the roadway for 80w and the left side for 380n. Someone in Law enforcment should look at every detail that caused an accident, and might try being a little more "human" when someone has a loss.

Lizard, any problems today?

I wasn't talking about the receiver rating, I was talking about how much weight the vehicle is rated to tow. Ford states that the maximum permissable weight for a trailer on a base model Ranger is 6060 lbs (I mistyped it in my last post as 6050, not that 10lbs makes much difference.). Personally I wouldn't want to try towing that much weight with a Ranger, however, that is what the vehicle rating is. I don't know how they come up with that rating, but that's what they list. I also wasn't passing judgement on the idea of towing an X with the Ranger. I'm sure Justin is suffering enough right now, he doesn't need to be beaten over the head with it.

BTW, just for info purposes, the XLT Ranger weighs 3100-3300 lbs depending upon the cab configuration, and the X weighs 3900 lbs, so they aren't that far apart.

Bobbed Ranger, you're right about that 80-380 split. It's been bad for YEARS!! I went to East Stroudsburg University in the mid 80's and it was bad then!! Penndot's finest at work :shoot:

Namitey almost got clobbered by a semi a short distance before where Justin rolled, I, for on, think there is something up with the road. Namitey was luck to regain control of his truck, I was scared, and coming from me, that's bad.

Just wanted to let ya'll know I made it back on LI safely. I probally saved at least 45 min on the trip because of my EZPass, there were exteemly long lines at both the GW bridge and the Throgs Neck and I got to whiz by everybody! I don't know why I waited 3 yrs to get one.

Anyhow, Thanks to everybody who made it this time around I had a blast. And thanks especially to Chris who let us all crash at his place and keep him up real late watching Super Troopers. Oh yeah, I will have pics and videos up as soon as I can (especially the one with me riding on the back of Namitey's bumper as he's being pulled out of the mud pit, thanks Lizzard)
