I don't have near as many pretty pics as most of you, and no build pics, but it works pretty damn well. Using the generic forklift test the front tires come 42" off the ground before a rear tire lifts, and both rearts lift bfore the front will, which Im thought kinda odd. I don't have any wheelin pics, but the two supplied are from a trip to Tellico last year....poor things been on the road ever since. Any queastions, let me know. Coda
Well, I finally pulled my head outta my SAS! Now that I have things just about right, I'll post a ton of pictures to show how everything went.;) Thanks to everyone who helped me out with my questions and everyone who posted all the info about other SAS projects. Like everyone else here who swapped axles, I felt the need to get rid of my TTB after running 35?s for a couple years and breaking everything (shafts, spindles, hubs, joints, bent beams, cracked brackets, even cracked the diff in half upon snapping inner u-joint on pass side). I also wanted to get more flex. I followed the lead of several members here, but READ ON because I also have done some things that no one here has yet to have done or at least openly shared with everyone. Most of this custom work was modeled after my good friend Matt?s Cherokee who swapped 44s front and rear and his setup has worked very well for the past couple years. I?m also including a parts list as well as the vendor that I located the part if anyone...
Since the AZ wheeling season is finally upon us, I decided it was time to put my new truck in the shop for a little tweaking to better handle the trails around here. A little about what I started with: Specs: 5 speed, manual tcase, 5.13's, discs and no slip in rear, 37 MTR's(street) and 36 TSL's(rocks). The goal for this project was to build something that was able to drive to the hardest trails in AZ, run them successfully, and then drive home. It must also be able to be driven everyday as this is my main source of transportation. All decisions were made with a bias towards trail performance, instead of street comfort. Build Specs: Dana 44 - Left over from my last project. - Warn shafts, CTM's, Detroit, 5.13's...

KEEP IN MIND, EVERYTHING THAT FOLLOWS IS FROM MY BUILD ON ANOTHER SITE, SO ITS PRESENT TENSE WHEN I DID IT....BUT, IT SHOWS FULL BUILT MORE OR LESS. so, i decided to obliterate my truck in an attempt at making something better. so far so good, im happy to say. this is blackfoot(what i named my truck (no its not corny). so ive seen people chop the rear end off their rigs to make a pick-up style rear end. i really liked the idea, and decided to go forward with it on my own. i have no fabrication experience at all, im majoring in welding in an attempt to learn fabrication, but i guess i would learn best by doing it. so, after much contemplation, i decided to do this to my explorer. i had somewhat of a different idea though...

swapped in a tj dana 30 using rustys offroad 4.5" coils springs on ballistic fab adjustable coil buckets set 6" ahead of the normal coil bucket mounting location. links are 2x2x.25" square tubing with poly bushings from ruffstuff and trailgear creeper joints on the other end. custom fabbed link mounts just ahead of trans cmember and extensive driver side frame modification for upper link so I could get the suspension characteristics I wanted. netted about 3" of lift overall which required cutting the engine crossmember out of the way of the panhard bar which is made with ruffstuff heims and 1 3/4" dom with .25 wall thickness. truck flexes really well, future plans are for a wagoneer d44 to replace the d30, using the same suspension...
EEE's Solid Axle Swap #1 Shortly after returning from Moab, Utah in the Summer of 2001, I decided that I was going to bite the bullet and go with a solid axle swap, or live axle conversion. The 1991-1994 Ford Explorers were equipped with Dana 35 TTB, or Twin Traction Beam, suspensions, that, in my opinion, leave much to be desired. The pivot points in the middle of the TTB are flex-killers; and if you have any plans of doing any serious rockcrawling, the TTB has to go. The Dana 35 is also equipped with weak aluminum bearing caps. With that said, the solid axle swap provides other benefits besides just flex and articulation. It also provides superior strength, more stability, and tends to stay in alignment much more so than any...
I have a nasty squeal in the front brakes. I got new rotors and wheel studs. The rotor isn't completely tight against the hub. I've tried to get the studs as tight as possible. I'm just afraid that I'll snap a stud off. Guess I'll keep tightening them up. BUT here's what I did tonight. Oh who ever said about creaming your jeans in double low.....:exporange Need to build the xmember before I can flex the drivers side down. This is whats left in the shocks. About 2" droop and 3" compression left on the front. About 2" droop and 1" compression left on the rear.
