A faster, simpler, better myford touch is here - MFT Update

Funny how we keep praising Ford for making good on the MFT. Fact is the system was rushed for release for public consumption in what most programmers would call a beta mode that was full of bugs and glitches that should not have been released. Now that Ford is finally getting it programmed correctly 2+ years later, we are praising them for taking care of us consumers. Reality is they are in damage control mode over all the bad press they have received on MFT and trying to salvage customers for future purchases. What ever happened to product testing prior to public release? instead they made us all guinea pigs.

According to Ford I am still on the list to receive an update package in the next few months.

Syncmyride says go to the dealership for update. I just got this in an email from Sync IVT.

Jack,

Thank you for your email in regards to SYNC. You will be receiving an updated SD card and USB via mail. If your do not wish to wait for the mailing you can schedule to have your vehicle updated at the dealership. They can also provide you with an SD card. If they do not have any SD cards available the dealership can place an order to get an SD card for your vehicle. Sincerely,

I really don't think anyone has a clue whats going on. That is the 1 thing I am 100% sure of. Anybody have mullaly's email address.
 






I took my Sync Update Request (printed from SMR) to my dealer and they informed me that they did not have any SD cards and could not do the update for me until I received the packet.

They informed me that according to their information from Ford, when a customer receives the Update packet, that the dealer would install the upgrade at no cost.

Call the IVT team (800-392-4040) ... tell them the dealer is telling you that they can't do the upgrade until you receive the packet. They should forward your call to a specialist that will call the dealer while you're on the phone and get everything scheduled for you.
 












I did the same thing today, i called my dealer and spoke to the service mgr and explained what ford had told me to tell dealer service rep, so i did she then told me ford was wrong that i am getting a packet, while the web site and the ford rep said i was not getting one because my explorer needs a mft patch, so we got into a little piss match i told her i'm not calling to argue i'm just doing what i was told to do by ford. I then called ford mft dept and told them what i was going thru, while i was on the phone with ford the dealer called me back to tell me she was on the phone with ford i then told her that i was also on the phone with ford and that ford is going to call her, so they did, ford then called me back and told me that the dealer is calling me back so they did and told me that the sd card was being shipped and to bring my car in on monday 7am 3/19/12 and that ford was taking care of all shipping and so forth, well now im going to bust some chops they will have to take care of the tinny top and what ever i come up with even that i lease the explorer ( when i lease i dont bother much unles it is a major issue cuz at the end the car is going back )!! Well the moral of the story is keep the heat on the dealer and keep ford posted of issues with the dealer and ford will take care of issues !!! Thanks ford !!!:D:D:D

Tooot Tooot. Yes that's my own horn. How many times have I said this. Give it to em. I'm the customer, and a customer with a warranty. Mine happens to be 7 years and 200 + km. Hehehehehe. Yes I'm always right. Good for you newport. Love to see it. Half of them don't have a clue how to provide customer service. The guy I deal with is awesome. Probably because he doesn't want to put up with my BS.
 






Toay I had my first BSOD with the new MFT Software.
Very disappointing. When I started the car, I put it to reverse and saw the camera view.
While slowly driving backward I realized, the camera view on the MFT is frozen, showing a still picture from the first moment.
After swichting to D and driving forward nothing changes for about 15 secs. Then the MFT went black. After some time the it showed "performing >scheduled< system maintenance", and then it came back. Just the known BSDO with reboot.
Then the voice " Your 911 assist is not operational, please visit dealer".
Well I´m pretty disappointed, because I expected this not to happen anymore. And the 911 assist? Of course it´s not operational, because I turned it off (It wouldn´t work here in germany, we have a differend emergency phone numer).

So let´s hope this was a single event and will not happen again, but due to the earlier experience with MFT, I´m afraid it will.

When was your build date.

Sounds to me you are like me and need to go to the dealer. There are a group of 2011's that need a software upgrade for V 3 to work. I see someone had to send you the upgrade. This is probably because you couldn't download it from the syncmyride site. Because your in Germany I'm not sure if you will be able to get the reflash done. You are going to have to contact ford and ask them if one of their European Ford dealers will have the reflash. Maybe if you talk nice to them they could arrange to have it done for you. I have had the same glitches, Mine also happened when backing up as yours did. I did a master reset and now everything is working again. Told the dealer and they said this is because I updated the system myself and that they will need to redo it.

I reported my sucessful installation to syncmyride.com and it shows:

Well yes I tried that before. But our dealers here have no clue about MFT at all.
Of course they don´t know what I am talking about. I asked my dealer but he is not Ford authorised. But okay, maybe its an idea to make a master reset. I was even suprised that the radio and other things did not loose there memory after the update. Maybe it´s good idea to clear the "storage".

This is the first time I've seen V3.0.2 mentioned. Is that the new upgrade version?
As for your screen freezing and the "performing >scheduled< system maintenance" message. I don't worry about that. I believe it is normal. Mine did that yesterday as well. I was at a store and got in the Ex, started it up, backed up and the screen was black. Started driving and nothing changed. Then the SYNC screen came up with the performing maintenance message and once that finished, all was well again.
I've had that happen about 4 times in the year that I've had the Ex.

That is the system rebooting. It is not normal. Hopefully it will go away once you get the new update. I know it's not a big deal, it could be a precursor for something more serious however. That's why they released fixes. I wish they would have released what the versions were specifically addressing though. That way we as guinea pig beta testers could have let them know yay or nay.

Are people who are experiencing this problem waiting until MFT finishes loading until the backup? I know it always causes problems on 2.11 when you don't wait until the system finishes loading.
 






All 3 cases were people who have early builds and were supposed to go to the dealer for upgrades. I know 2 that used a USB upgrade..... Klaus and myself..... who is the 3rd? If you're talking about Peter he hasn't done the upgrade yet.

Are people who are experiencing this problem waiting until MFT finishes loading until the backup? I know it always causes problems on 2.11 when you don't wait until the system finishes loading.
In my case I don't think that the loading was likely finsihed. I had another quick stop to make so after starting it up, I began to backup almost right away.

chimoman,I had always assumed that because the message said performing system maintenance, that it must have received an outside signal or something to trigger it. I guess that is not the case. Thanks.
